In a new, socially distanced video for the Netflix Film Club, Lilly Wachowski fielded questions about the trans allegory that’s very present in The Matrix, and how she’s glad that more people are finally catching onto it in recent years despite the studio removing some of the more queer elements such as making the character of Switch a man in the real world. However, the message was loud and clear to transgender audiences who found The Matrix films to be a life-affirming experience.

“I love how meaningful these films are to trans people,” Wachowski said. “And the way they come up to me and say, ‘These movies saved my life.’ Because when you talk about transformation, specifically in the world of science fiction, which is just about imagination, it’s like world-building and the idea of the seemingly impossible becoming possible. I think that’s why it speaks to them so much.”

Straight bullshite. It's difficult to be a trans allegory from the two Wachowski freaks when they stole the idea from a black woman.

Weren't they the Wachowski Brothers when the Matrix was made? Were they doing some J. Edgar Hoover stuff we didn't know about?

There's some serious mental illness going on with this family. God only knows what happened to them as kids.

There is no coherent philosophy behind the Matrix movies, especially the sequels.

Listen to Cornel West babble on about the philosophy of The Matrix on the DVD commentaries and you can hear exactly full of shite an Ivy League scholar can be.

absolute horseshite

hilarious that their pivotal work is about choosing between comfortable delusion and facing reality, given their situation.

they watched the animated classic Ghost in the Shell (1995) and said "we need to do a live action version of this." they included tons of direct shot-for-shot tributes. shite, even the green hue present for the scenes inside the Matrix is stolen from GITS. just took a lot of the fantastic imagery and symbolism and added their own story to it. pitiful that they're trying to play revisionist auteur with it. they saw a cool movie and wanted to replicate it with their own narrative spin - there was no deep trans agenda that made them progressive geniuses ahead of their time . How embarrassing

they have literally made ONE good movie in their careers. the original matrix is a classic, the 2nd is a mess but a guilty pleasure because the action choreography (for the non CGI fight scenes) is absolutely stellar, and everything else they've done is trash

quote:

When Larry and Andy Wachowski were pitching The Matrix to their producers, they played them a DVD of an 82-minute Japanese cartoon and said: "We wanna do that for real." The film was 1995's Ghost in the Shell, which defined a visual identity for cyberpunk cinema and counts James Cameron and Steven Spielberg among its most high-profile fans.

As it turned out, The Matrix wasn't quite Ghost in the Shell "for real", but it is indebted to it. Both films explore the virtual realm with a combination of existential questioning and kick-arse violence. The Wachowskis borrowed many of Ghost's key details, including the digital "rain" of green numbers that signifies cyberspace, and the way humans plug themselves in through holes in the backs of their necks.

The central theme of The Matrix, espacially the first one is control and free will.

Would you make the decision to unplug and live In a hell hole or stay under the spell of the government/machines?

Would you be Emmanuel Goldstein in 1984 or would you just be another one of the masses that takes it up the tush and eats up newspeak.

The Matrix also asks is human nature is a essentially a virus or cancer to society.

The Wachowski Brothers are just pissed that they're films became far more of an idictemnt on the party and lifestyle they support instead of a condemnation of the establishment.

The sequels are just incoherent gobbledygook. They don't matter. They basically are just pontificating of intellectual sounding gibberish.

Have these two freaks made a decent movie since the original Matrix? They need to shut up and not taint the only decent movie they ever made.

Once again, another of these Hollywood weirdos who thinks I care. Shut up and entertain me minstrel man. That’s all I want from the movie.

We rewatched the trilogy recently and holy shite it did not age well.

Was the first rewatch in probably over 10 years and the first movie was decent the other 2 were just bad.

Seriously, who looks at themselves in the mirror, sees this and says "Yep, this is good....".

If you see this reflection and think it's good, then the mental illness argument has been settled.

For the record, I once had a friend who was a DragQueen/Marilyn Monroe impersonator and was pretty hot....this thing, not so much....
