One of the most dramatic storylines this upfront season has come to an end, with American Pie alum Seann William Scott tapped to star opposite Damon Wayans on Fox’s Lethal Weapon. He replaces original co-lead Clayne Crawford whose option for next season will not be picked up by producer Warner Bros. TV over on-set behavior issues.
In its first series regular role, Scott will play a new character, who will be partnered with Wayans’ Murtaugh. The recent Season 2 finale of Lethal Weapon laid the groundwork for Crawford’s exit with a cliffhanger, in which (SPOILER ALERT)
“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” said Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. “Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

‘Lethal Weapon’s Fox Renewal On The Line Over Co-Lead Clayne Crawford’s Behavior
EXCLUSIVE: Lethal Weapon is the youngest and highest rated of the three Warner Bros TV drama series for Fox, so its renewal had been considered a no-brainer. But a behind-the scene issue involving one of the two leads, Clayne Crawford, is making a third season a rather complex proposition.
I have learned that Crawford has had a history of bad behavior on the show, and that he has been disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment. I hear the issue has escalated to a point where other actors as well as crew on Lethal Weapon would feel uncomfortable being on set with him. The problem is threatening the future of the show, with a recasting — a rare and dramatic move when involving a lead of an established series — being explored. Fox and Warner Bros TV declined comment.

Six days before Fox is set to unveil its fall 2018 lineup, the network is yet to make renewal decisions on its three Warner Bros. TV series, Lethal Weapon, Gotham and Lucifer. As Deadline previously reported, the Season 3 pickup of the strongest of the three, Lethal Weapon, was put in jeopardy by complaints of co-lead Clayne Crawford’s on-set behavior, including two alleged incidents involving him. (Crawford has since put out his side of the story and apologized for “my part of the conflict.”)
As we indicated in our story, producer Warner Bros. TV had set out to explore potential recasting of the role. Over the past two weeks, the studio has approached several actors for the role. While a recasting would mean a likely replacement of Crawford, according to sources he has not been yet formally terminated from the series. Crawford has been carrying on with his duties — just hours ago he took to Instagram to promote Lethal Weapon‘s Season 2 finale, which airs tonight.
A replacement or a list of potential candidates would likely be a key in WBTV’s efforts to secure a third-season renewal from Fox, something that is up in the air but could be decided in the next few days.

I just don't understand some people's thought processes.
Producer: Hi would you like a life of absolute luxury, millions of dollars, no worries, and no real talent needed? We have a place on a moderately successful attempt of a TV show to set up your career.
Clayne Crawford: no thanks I'd rather just be an a-hole no one ever remembers

Out of control actor playing out of control character. Method acting?

Riggs is supposed to be a little crazy. Maybe he's a method actor.

Damn. I've enjoyed this show, it doesn't take itself seriously at all, and you can just turn your brain off.

“Lethal Weapon” star Clayne Crawford will not be returning to the Fox series should it get renewed for a third season.
Variety has confirmed with sources that producers Warner Bros. Television are actively searching for a replacement for Crawford, who plays Martin Riggs in the one-hour cop drama opposite Damon Wayans’ Roger Murtaugh. Whether or not they are able to find a suitable replacement for Crawford will help determine whether or not the series gets a third season. No final decision has yet been made on the show’s future. Fox’s upfront presentation is set to take place on Monday, May 14.
Fox and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Crawford’s exit from the series comes two weeks after it was revealed the former “Rectify” star had twice been reprimanded for his behavior on the “Lethal Weapon” set. In a statement posted on Instagram, Crawford provided details of two on-set incidents for which he was reprimanded, both related to concerns over working conditions.
Crawford said that in the first incident, which occurred last fall, he “reacted with anger over working conditions that did not feel safe or conducive to good work,” prompting an angry response from the director and assistant director of the episode being shot. Crawford said that, following instruction from Warner Bros. Television, which produces the show, he completed therapy and shared a portion of his pay from the episode with one of the parties involved.
According to Crawford, the second incident occurred this spring during production of the first “Lethal Weapon” episode in which he served as director. During filming, an actor was hit by a piece of shrapnel from a special effect. “I take responsibility for the incident, because I was in charge of the set,” Crawford said. “I absolutely love, respect, and care for my crew and cast and would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs.”

Why haven’t they renewed Gotham yet?

Sagging ratings, it's getting more expensive, and it's owned by WB.
I've seen several publications predict it gets canceled or at best a short 13 episode season.
Remember, Fox now has Thursday Night NFL in the fall which will take up a lot of air time that scripted shows have been used to fill.

Neither one of those instances quoted sound that bad but it is only one side. Must have been bad for a lead in a popular show to get fired.

No shite. Besides a a very select handful of actors who are just super attractive, super charismatic, or super talented, all others are infinitely replaceable. There are likely 10,000 actors in L.A. that you could throw a dart at to pick who could replace this guy today and it would not affect the quality of the show in the slightest.
I’m sure the hours are long, but these network shows shoot in L.A. Monday-Friday for what, 4 or 5 months a year? And besides your salary, going into Season 3 you’re well on your way to having some nice residuals for the rest of your life? And all you have to do is not be a fricking a-hole? People would likely literally kill for that gig, and he pulls a T.J. Miller, who actually had a better career?
I don’t know what he’s doing now, but I’d love to see Daman Wayans, Jr. join his dad on the show. **disclaimer—I have seen 0 episodes of this show—DwJr may already be on it***Those 2 would be hilarious together. Jr, is almost like an exact replica of his younger dad. It’s crazy.

Fox is also trying to get WWE. The early word is that they would put Raw on Fox on Monday night.

Damn. Those two play off each other so well. I really enjoy the show, but after watching the finale last night, I wondered if something was up.
Nothing described sounds so bad as to warrant firing him. There must be more to the story.
I'm not happy about this. At all.
