It sucked?
Alien should be and always should be Man vs Nature (Alien)
Man vs. man is a good B plot, but the Aliens should always be the antagonist.
I’ll watch Winona Ryder a hundred times before I ever watch Covenent again.

It's Ann unpopular opinion for good reason ;)
The movie is very preachy there's some interesting stuff that's passed by. The characters in the movie continue to be incredibly stupid, like in Prometheus
The stuff with David, while wonderfully acted, is just ugh.
I did like the stuff with the actual alien, but that's it.

Covenant was great up until the small transport ship blows up. After that it's a boring, predictable, and ultimately forgettable slog.

Unpopular things can be wrong at the same time, so I guess this is ok.
I will say I liked it better than prometheus, but probably less than Resurrection

Maybe because it goes all Last Jedi on us and side steps any of the interesting questions we wanted answered from Prometheus?

Alien Covenant makes me wish I didn't know what I know now in regards to the Xenomorph.

It goes from Alien to...Death Trap? Clue without the suspense or laughs?

All the films have played with genre a little bit, oscillating between horror and action.
If you leave the series comparisons to the side and think of Resurrection as just a slick late 90s campy action flick (think Deep Blue Sea), you'd say it's near top of its sub-genre. Its one big flaw, and it's a big one, is fricking up the hybrid at the end - god what a hideous creature design that was.
It had some iconic shots that did a lot to solidify the pop culture coolness factor of the Xenomorph - namely the Space Marine massacre montage (very 90s) and the Xenos swimming under water (very cool).

Frankly, as the quality devolved after Aliens, I gave up before Covenant.
I'm going with Alien 1a and Aliens 1b - they're different films, of course, directed by Ridley and then (good) Cameron. The rest are racing for "least awful" in my humble opinion.
