Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation are incredibly entertaining. Can’t wait for Fallout this summer.

Absolutely True. Spectre was just fricking awful and comical. They saw Goldmember, and then said "Let's do that." Blofeld has to be the most petty villain ever, and I can't buy that anyone would follow this fricking loser.

True. MI4 and 5 were great. The last good Bond movie was Casino Royale.

Absolutely.

So are the Bourne movies.

Bond has fallen off the map. The last two Brosnan ones were godawful schlep, then Casino came out and it seemed like Craig was the savior of the franchise, only for every subsequent Bond to become more navel-gazing, sloppily plotted, boring, and/or stupid.

I don’t understand the board’s love for Skyfall. 3/4 of that movie was a jumbled mess and the final 1/4 was so boring I fell asleep.

Casino runs laps around Skyfall.

Casino was the ONLY good Craig Bond movie and it still wasn’t as good as From Russia With Love or Goldeneye.

Tom Cruise is a fricking weirdo, but damn, that man shows up to WORK when it’s time to film Mission Impossible movies.

I love that movie like I love popcorn.

Original is still the best but Ghost Protocol is the Rocky IV to the Rocky.

I'd say they're at least more consistent. The bad Bond movies, spectre and quantom, were just awful. All the M:I movies have been really fun watches.

I won't argue with you, a few scenes in that movie were better than anything in the other two, but Bardem was overacting like crazy and

The entire mission for Bond was to keep M alive and he fails.

MI2 says "what's up!". White doves and masks galore mother fricker.

Otherwise, i would say that this is a true statement and I would say I have enjoyed the Cruise MI movies more than Craig's Bond movies. Im not sure how far back before you would have a collection of Bond movies to rival MI, MI3, MI4 and MI5.

Craig Skyfall, Casino Royale, Goldeneye, and Maybe License to Kill (if we are being generous) so roughly 30 years to match 4 of the 5 MI movies. I would put Tomorrow Never Dies at least on par with MI2 if not Halle Berry in a bikini as good as MI2.

I’ll give you that. Skyfall did have a few great scenes whereas Quantum just sucked and Spectre was so bad it could be mistaken for parody.

There was at least some legitimate artistry at work at times with Skyfall. I think it fails as an overall film though.

Watch Casino and Skyfall back to back. One is tight. Tightly plotted, tightly edited, and acted on point by everyone. The other is sloppily plotted, unevenly acted, and poorly edited, though some of the cinematography is great.

When Casino is over you say “that’s it? I want more!” When Skyfall is over you say “thank god, I’ve been browsing Tigerdroppings for half an hour.”

MI2 is at least "so bad it's good" territory. Spectre and Quantum are not.

Eh, I'm the only one liking Skyfall in this thread apparently.

The reason I put Skyfall 1 is that I think it has the better blend of old school Bond (of which I am extremely touchy about. So many films teeter on the edge of being bad movies and great movies). It's about as good as Goldeneye overall. Not amazingly "spy like" like From Russia with Love and Licensed to Kill, but not not terribly Octopussy levels of cheese either. It's a good blend.

I like Casino Royale more, but that's because like Dalton's Bond and early Connery Bond the most of which CR owes a lot to, but Skyfall is more entertaining.

Speaking of which, License has to have had the biggest turnaround in opinion in the history of the franchise. When it came out it bombed, people claimed to hate it, and it and Dalton were said to have ruined the franchise. People went as far to say Bond was done.

But now it’s almost universally seen as alright and some people even really like it. Check it out - the current reviews on it are high 70s to 80s in terms of approval. I promise you that’s NOT how it was at the time.

The changing opinion on License is a pretty interesting phenomenon.

I would say false if Spectre wasn’t so awfully terrible. I don’t get how they could have fricked it up so royally. I’d say CR, QoS, and SF were better than any of the MI movies I saw. God, Spectre was such shite.

I believe because Bond's popularity at the time was driven by Roger Moore and his terrible Bond fans. (I like Moore, but outside of 1-2 of his Bond films, the rest are abysmal). So the general cultural appeal was around Bond as goofy spy guy that says one liners, is 30 years older than the women he sleeps with, and has awful stunt doubles. People loved that stuff.

But his movies haven't aged well at all, and neither was that late 70s/super early 80s culture.

People who prefer Moore' Bond films have bad taste, simple as that
