Trilogies with 1 great moviePosted by skrayper
on 2/24/21 at 1:42 pm

Watching a review of Logan got me thinking about trilogies that had 1 great movie, but the remaining were either "alright" or just plain terrible.
For example, as great as The Dark Knight is, Batman Begins is still a good movie. It doesn't quite fit into this.
Star Wars obviously doesn't, though some could argue if they feel that Revenge of the Sith is a great movie, that the prequels fit this. Even if you limit Aliens to the first three movies, Alien is still a really good movie as is Aliens.
I'd submit:
Thor: Ragnarok as a great movie, with Thor being "okay" and Dark World being plain bad.
Logan as a great movie, with Origins: Wolverine being bad and The Wolverine being "okay"
X2 being a great movie, with X3 being bad and X-Men being "okay"

The Matrix Trilogy is the obvious choice.

The Hangover.
Oceans trilogy. 12 was bad and 13 was good but not like 11 good.
Friday. Next Friday was bad. Friday After Next was meh but had some funny parts.

Probably because I was watching Logan I was only thinking of superhero movies, but you are absolutely correct.

I like each of the BTTF movies, but let’s face it. There’s only 1 great movie.
...and that’s Part II.

Do you consider the third one "Meh"? Just curious, I thought it was enjoyable (though honestly not sure if I consider it "good" or not)

How is that possible? They only made the one movie in 1999.

Lethal Weapon
The sequels are watchable, but get worse as go.
