Also, there was already a Buzz Lightyear and Star Command show a while back. Allen didn’t voice Buzz in it. It was Patrick Warburton.

This is a TV show? When I read the OP, it seems like this will be a movie.

This the Chris Evans who was getting tired of playing Captain America & wanted to expand his horizons ? So ...he takes a voice job depicting an adventurous, masculine, heroic character ? Wow, that’s really crawling right out there on that limb.

Sorry for my wording.

It is a movie, as it was said to be “blasting into theaters.” Im just saying that Disney made 3 seasons of an animated show with Warburton as Buzz. I don’t see the big deal in changing actors between projects that are depicting different things. At the end of the day this isn’t Toy Story.

I enjoy Star Wars the Clone Wars’s Anakin Skywalker without needing him to be voiced by Hayden Christensen. Same goes for the clones not being Temuera Morrison.

This is total arse. Tim Allen IS Buzz Lightyear, not just the voice. Screw Disney for this.

No one has any problem using deaging so the same actors can play their in their 20s in life action, but this is just a bridge too far here in animation. Yeah....this is the logical reason. Never mind that Tim and Tom are the same age group but it doesn’t apply for Hanks.

On a related note, WTF is this even? Outside the caricatures of the extremes of age, a person’s voice isn’t “expected” to be that different.

Voice work is hardly the time commitment a full blown live action film is. Doesn’t have to go to location. Doesn’t have to do reshoots. Doesn’t have to maintain a certain appearance. He goes into a booth for a few hours and he’s done.

What are you spazzing about?

See also.

Red Sea Diving Resort
Saving Jacob
Knives Out

Pre-Production:
A Bermuda Triangle thriller
Little Shop of Horrors
Don’t Loom Up

The only actual film falling into your rants specifics is The Gray Man.

Another swing and a miss.

I made a casual comment. How is that anything remotely misinterpreted as 'spazzing ' ? Are you a 10 yr old jacked up on pixie sticks?

As you're clearly a Chris Evans fanboy, you're aware that Captain American doesn't wear a cape. So no one was stepping on it.

Lighten up, Francis.

You don't know jack shite about what you are talking about either. You just make knee jerk assumptions in the opposite direction.

How did I get 'called out '??? It was a casual, accurate comment and I stand by it.

Don't like it or agree ? Fine. WTF do I care?

Throwing a hissy fit like a spoiled little bitch over what ever imagined slight you think someone said about your beloved isn't my concern.

That's a you problem.

Yeah Disney isn’t political at all.

Is there a new trans or gay toy in this one? I’ll bet there is.

This has been in the works for years, hard to believe that they couldn't work out a schedule over the matter of years.

I would believe that this is at least 75% politics and 25% possibly going to Chris Evans name recognition at this point. Allen has been a vocal republican and that is just taboo in Hollywood.

Your words are confusing. Live-action de-aging refers to their looks, not their voices. Are you trying to say that an older person's voice can be digitally de-aged? When has that ever been done?

Didn't see it, but Daniels and Carrey were replaced with younger versions of themselves in their prequel. Dumb and Dumberer.

* If Tom Hanks is being cast but not Tim Allen, I suppose there could be good reasons. Tom is the bigger star, objectively speaking, and his voice may just record better today than Tim's does. Not everyone ages the same.

Carrie Fisher's voice sure didn't age well ( nor did the rest of her ) compared to others from Star Wars. Just an example. IDK if the same holds for Tim, or if there are other reasons.

Chris Evans is a hot commodity currently. So there's that.

But story wise, how does this work? Woody was the older toy. From the 50's or 60's, if I recall. Buzz was the NEW toy, just hitting the market. Why would there need to be a YOUNGER version of him? If toys themselves are timeless, why would their voices change ??

* EDIT - Jumping to conclusions here. A movie about the origins of Buzz LY likely won't even HAVE Tom Hanks, save for a brief cameo, at most. And sure, the character backstory of Buzz before he met Woody and the gang... makes perfect sense. So maybe dismiss most of what I just said.

Think of it this way...

In Jingle All The Way, Arnold was chasing a Turbo Man action figure. That Turbo Man action figure is the direct equivalent of Buzz in the Toy Story Franchise. The Turbo Man action figure in JIAT is based off an in universe tv show called Turbo Man, Buzz in TS is based off of an in universe movie called Lightyear. They are making Lightyear now.

I’m willing to bet that Tom Hanks cameo in the movie is likely 1. Woody at the end of the in movie universe commenting on watching the Lightyear film or 2. He has a small cameo voicing a character in the Lightyear universe itself.

So like how Toy Story 2 begins with the Buzz Lightyear video game that they reveal Rex is playing after Buzz gets vaporized.
