In light of the World Cup I watched some of Welcome to Wrexham and thought it started out kind of slow, my friend was a huge truther of the documentary but I think it's just okay.. curious about what the general consensus on the boards is

I stopped after like 8 episodes. Started off interesting and then just seem to waste time. Might watch the last few when they come out to see what happened.

Overall, excellent. There are a couple of throw away episoides but overall premise of the show is awesome. You will want to follow Wrexham FC after watching.

I agree. I really enjoyed it. I still keep up with Wrexham in the standings and have watched a couple of matches that were televised recently. They are #1 in the standings this season. The possibility of promotion is really good.

Yes and a loaded roster for the league that they are in. They are also doing a huge renovation to the stadium.

It’s good but should have been 10 episodes. It’s 18!!

They will spend a whole episode about a random local

There are a handful of filler episodes, but outside of that its a great sports underdog story. If you don’t like this you either don’t like sports or are a “life long” Lakers/Warriors/Cowboys fan.

The story was awesome, but I didn’t think the documentary was particularly well done. I still enjoyed watching all the way through, but there were a lot of times when creative decisions by the documentary team significantly lowered the quality below what it could have been.

EDIT: since I see a few people mentioning the filler episodes, that’s definitely true as well, but not even my biggest problem. I actually found some of them kind of fun. For me, the bigger issues were simple things like needed to do a better job with the narrative of how the season progressed. They’d hop backwards and forwards games without a good tracking of how the club’s positioning changed. And biggest problem of all, they just needed to show way more soccer highlights! I wanted so bad to see more of Wrexham on the actual pitch, but it seems like we’d only get 45 seconds or so of clips each episode. If they would’ve given us more Wrexham “Mic’d Up” on the pitch, it could have been way better

But still absolutely worth watching

I think it’s a brilliant business decision. Between the documentary and the aviation gin/tik tok sponsorship, I would imagine they are making money with the synergy. If they get promoted even once it is huge. A second promotion and they are making money. I think those two dudes just got themselves a “free” soccer team.

Also, I travel a lot for work and I am. Noticing aviation gin in almost every airport. Don’t think it’s because of the show. But I’m noticing it now

It’s pretty cringe, par for the course with anything involving Ryan Reynolds.

Great show. Went in not knowing how serious they were going to take it. Pleasantly surprised how genuine Rob was about it. Ryan came around but it’s Rob’s brainchild. Started chopping heads from the start and put real effort into putting together their team to win promotion.
