This month marks the 75th anniversary of the release of It's a Wonderful LIfe

And Paramount is celebrating with a brand new blu ray release with NBC latching on to the celebration by broadcasting it on their network once again. It's incredible how much staying power this movie has had over the years. Even more incredible is this film likely saved Jimmy Stewart's life. He had just come home from the war and was suffering from serious PTSD. This was the first movie he made post-World War II and actors who worked with him on the set could tell he was working through some issues.
The line at the end of the movie still gets me every time: "A toast! To my big brother George - the richest man in town."

Everyone grew up on it even if they didn't want too.
Shawshank TNT rewatch ain't got nothing on this public domain movie.
Who wouldn't lasso the moon for her?

Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death?

Youth is wasted on the young.

No film has ever gotten better with age than this one.
And it’s gets better for YOU as YOU age.

That George Bailey was a lucky fella. Mary Hatch was hot, and clearly DTF.

Probably my favorite movie.
<——See avatar.
I usually rewatch it around this time every year.

The phone conversation doesn't feel like acting, that's how good it is. Its like Jimmy smelled her hair and was just overwhelmed. And then grabbed her.
I don't know of a more visceral scene that isn't exploitive.

I don't like him either but I kind of get where Potter is coming from. Greed power at the expense of others will give you Potter.
Who I think is a bigger POS is the wheel chair pushing enabler especially after Potter keeping the money from Uncle Billy. Potter gave 2 shits about the money but knew it would sink the Baily Building and Loan. That enabler let the conspiracy against George Baily and potential ruin to continue.

I remember reading how that scene was somewhat scandalous back then and they were told to tone it down because it looked too real. Maybe it was with them

It didn't catch on at first, the studio let the copyright lapse. Then it became public domain and everyone plays in for Christmas.

Cool facts. Who knew any of this?

I actually read that Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed really didn't get along too well. Stewart even blamed Reed for the film's poor box office though they did end up reconciling later on as both of them were very cordial with each other when they honored Frank Capra at the American Film Institute in 1982.

When the occasional "Movies You're Embarrassed to Say You've Never Seen" thread pops up, I'll have to toss my hat on the It's a Wonderful Life pile.

Can you say that again? That’s my bad ear. I thought I heard you say you haven’t seen the movie.

George Bailey was a sub-prime lender and should have been shut down by regulators for poor operational controls and poor reserve management

This town needs this measly one horse institution if only to have people someplace to come without crawling to Potter.

Great movie.
But Mary Hatch being an old maid librarian wouldn’t have worked in Pottersville. We all know she would’ve been dancing on that stage.
