Definitely the worst part. Its all the white folks fault for not having breakaway sessions to discuss the black struggle every time a black person died.

True.

How would a white family even approach that? I can only imagine a discussion of self preservation for when he (my imaginary adopted black son) got pulled over. "It's not the same for you as it is for me."

Speaking of Miguel - Mrs. Vox saw an interview with Milo Ventimiglia a few seasons ago where he said that "when everyone sees the whole story about Miguel's and Rebecca's marriage, everyone is going to love him". This was at the height of the Miguel hate parade.

My lovely bride has the pet theory that Miguel is really gay, and that his and Rebecca's marriage is one of not obligation, but companionship, and an act of deference to Jack. That way he can always make sure Rebecca is taken care of.

It would also explain the collapse of his and Shelly's marriage.

Maybe that's a reach, but it is certainly supported by the evidence of what we've seen, thus far.

If they drag the George Floyd storyline all season they are going to lose a ton of viewers

Nah, I bet they have a couple of "one of" episodes.

Riot/Protest episode. Where the family takes part.

Covid Scare episode.

Randall gets pulled over episode... I think this may be more of a Daja and her bf get pulled over. OR They have Omar Epps as the dad, right? His character had previous scrapes with the law.

Randall and the black counselor episode. Which may be a good one and full of tear jerking moments.

George Floyd gets hopped up on fentanyl and dies in police custody because he won't comply with the officers' orders, and NOW Randall Pearson has been silently suffering for decades and can only be healed when he seeks out the safe black space of a black therapist? GTFOH.

Absolutely adore Madison's character, and I always have since the beginning, but the way they're setting her up, she may as well be a character on Game of Thrones, and that pisses me off.

Whether you like it or not, this show is set in current times and always has been. It wouldn't be current times if they left out Covid or BLM when you have a significant black character.

I thought they did it well. They didn't even mention BLM, which is good. They mostly talked about how it made Randall feel and how he was never able to share it with anyone. I know many black folk who feel exactly this way. They don't tell anyone. They showed Kate being sad that he had never been able to talk about it. She cares about him.

I absolutely hate Madison! I am Team Sophie and just don't see Kevin caring much about Madison. He just wants a family and she checks that box.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sophie, and there's always a chance they get together eventually, particularly if they have Madison die in childbirth or something similar. It's very HIMYM in that regard.

Seriously? Think about that statement. That's possibly the most un-TIU thing a person could say.

What bugs me is that Randall's character has digressed through the course of the show. He's gone from having won the adoption lottery and living a pretty charmed fricking life (Jack's death notwithstanding) to being both consumed and defined by his blackness. It's off-putting, and I hope the writers get this shite out of their system early this season.

A checked a couple other websites and the overnight ratings were even more brutal.

My wife and I loved the show but didn't make it past Randall & Beth's "Tom Hanks" comment...we never missed an episode but decided to never watch again.

They say people like us don't exist, but we do. I never missed an NFL weekend until I saw Ray Rice knock out and woman and for the first time in my life I didn't watch a single inning of MLB due to opening day BLM. I have had candid discussions with neighbors and we are not the families to feel this way.

I don't see the benefit of pushing away fans & viewers in the 18-49 demographic, especially some families with 100K+ of disposable income per year...we were not walking up and buying Astro's cheap seats...so odd & disappointing to us...NBC made it clear they don't want "our" money.

The convo btwn Randall and Malik on the porch..."did you watch it when it came out?" "George? Yeah and I had to take a walk, just like w Treyvon."

WITAF? They share your skin color. That's it. You aren't all family and onna first name basis with every black person in the world.

I wanted to smash things.

Of course Randall’s mom is alive. Guess they were desperate for plot points. Stupid

Definitely going to build to something.

Waiting on Randall to allude to his panic attacks and be all "I can't breathe, too!"

There's flashbacks and flashforwards for sure. But the present comes with everything that happens in the present day. It's not like they have ever ignored current events or any events during flashback times as well. YMMV, but I consider this show more "real" and less soap opera. This is real.

I do agree that they need to get on with the story of their overall lives. Randall's self pity is getting old. Even with his family.

I might be the only one that feels this way but I’m kind of over the flashback scenes

I’d prefer them just stick to current storylines and an occasional future one

I just think the flash backs are getting played out.

The girl who plays Sophie(she's a smokeshow) is on another show on Netflix, Virgin River. We watched the 1st season last spring. The 2nd season is due out any time now.

Looks like one long Hallmark movie. We caught the S1 trailer, because we love the actress (Alexandra Breckinridge), but dear God that show looked unwatchable.
