The casting call sheet for the character of Ciri has been released and the internet is in an uproar as it calls for a BAME (black asian minority ethnic) to play her. The resultant backlash has caused the show runner to quit Twitter. This is a slavic story but anyone who is against the decision to make Ciri a minority actress is apparently a racist.

frickin idiots in hollywood wont learn. Ciri has a very distinct, very iconic look. people dont want to see drastic deviations from the source material, so of course we're gonna be mad.

Being the victim is the most coveted social currency now. Make your issues someone else's responsibility

Sorry, but we wanna see:

How the frick are Asians minorities? Globally they’re like half the population.

At this point, I’m too tired of this incessant bullshite to form a cohesive argument for how this retarded and just have to ask

Whyyyyyy?

I say this all the time when someone refers to an Asian as a minority. It's like saying water doesn't cover 75 percent of the planet just because you happen to live in a desert and don't see any. It's just a gross factual error.

Plus, if you're going to say "Asian minority" and not the proper term, "Oriental" doesn't that mean they're looking for Russians or Mongols or something?

Aren't they the actual Asian minorities??

Isn't Russia in Asia?

What about Milana Vayntrub with her hair dyed blonde? (She is Uzbek)

Part of it is, but I'm fairly certain that's not the type of Asian they are looking for.

Are they looking for Jamie Chung/Ziyi Zhang type? Uzbeks are the most "asian" of the 'stans.

Plus we need to have Lily from AT&T show her tits on camera.

Most of it is,

As is India, Pakistan, most of the middle east, That is why I hate using the term Asian for anyone resembling oriental descent

The author of the book is signing off on all the casting decisions so I don't mind. If they were doing it without the authors approval I would be more worried. But if the guy that wrote the books is cool with it lets roll I say.

Maybe, just maybe it means an Asian person from Asia. Sandy snowflakes do in fact exist.

What gives you a y co fidence the author has any clue what they're doing?

Any Weit had an interview recently and he said to paraphrase "I've never made a movie. I've never cast a movie. Whom am I to tell them how to do stuff. ALso, they have me a shitload of money so they can do what they want."

Everyone said this exact same thing before that horrendous Dark Tower movie that destroyed the source material and made no effort to bring the actual characters to life

This showrunner woman also chose Henry Cavill to play Geralt. That may work out, we'll see. But her reasoning was basically "he fine".

I really hope she doesn't frick this up.

Also, says Ciri was gonna be a 13-year-old girl...

ETA: I've read all the books, and know her story, but after the success of the games, especially 3, why not make her 20-something.

If there ever was a character that you cant change their race for the sake of the story, its Ciri...Her entire saga is based off her heritage and blood line, to change her race you would have to change her entire lineage.
Hell you would have a easier time making Geralt black even though he is called the White Wolf
If you need to shoe horn a minority, change Dandelion that would not mess with the story at all

This did not stop them from casting Idris Elba as a character "descended from the line of Eld, a son of the English King Arthur with iconic light blue eyes."

They even did that in a story which already had an amazing black female character built in as Detta Walker.

I hate Hollywood adaptations of books that ignore the source material.

Yet him and MM were the lone bright spots in that terrible movie.

But let's be honest, nobody can ruin the Dark Tower series better than King himself.

Idris Elba is a great actor. I thoroughly enjoy most of his movies. But casting him as Roland made no sense.

Gary Oldman is a fantastic actor that blends into any role he plays.

Casting him as Martin Luthor King Jr would not make any sense at all regardless of his ability to convincingly deliver a speech.
