I like the show, just started S4, which is supposed to be one of the best seasons ever but I don’t get the hype. I’m never dying to watch another one after I finish, like I’m with other highly regarded shows.
I see this show ranked in many top 10 show of all time etc

The second rewatch is better than the first watch; the third was even better than the second. Its my favorite series, and I've watched every popular series I can think of at the moment.

It’s more about its impact on TV. There had not been many shows remotely like it ever before.

I loved it. Rewatched at the start of quarantine and felt the same way about it as I did the 1st.

Best TV show ever!

I watched half of the first season years ago, turned it off and never watched it again. Can't take Dominic West's horrific American accent and the show just did nothing for me. It was like a bad law and order episode.

Never understood the hype of this show, either.

How could you possibly attempt to understand any hype when you watched less than 10 percent of the show?

“Man I turned off Rocky after 5 minutes. Don’t get the hype. There was barely even any boxing.”

I agree. Watched something like 3 full seasons before giving up on it. I'll never understand why it gets so much hype.

To each their own. My wife loves The Real Housewives and just hearing it on the TV makes me want to vomit, maybe check out the Housewives on Bravo.

Finish season 4. It’s great.

Don’t bother with season 5

It's a tough show to binge. Very visceral show that you need time to process each episode.

This is because of the realism.

Traditional television demands long-form narratives as we follow a small group of characters on the long journey of their lives.

In reality, especially the reality of Baltimore drug dealers, "characters" appear and disappear suddenly, violently, usually with almost no reason beyond being a part of the game.

They could have made a show about the Barksdale crew with D'Angelo as the hero. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses. Maybe it ends tragically or maybe optimistically. Most of the audience would probably be more drawn into a show like that "The Sopranos in Baltimore". But that wouldn't be true to the real world, and it wouldn't be true to the show they wanted to make.

I understand your point. When Cheers was the number one show on all of tv back in the 80's I wondered how can this show be number one? The reason was simple, yes, Cheers was not great, but it did not suck nearly as much as the rest of the shows. In essence, Cheers was the tallest midget.
