Anyone else planning on seeing this? The original is one of our favorites and often a standard we hold other horror movies to.

When I first saw the trailer I thought it was a parody, so I’m gonna pass

Looks exactly the same as the first one if you moved it to a trailer park.

One of the things that made the first one so relatable was it happening at home. This one looks to be more of a stranded motorist type situation so I’m not sure it will have the same effect.

Either way I’ll see it opening night.

Same here, with the first one. There's no demon, crawling from a portal to hell, no ouija board, no creepy house. Just three psychopaths who are hellbent on terrorizing random folks. That can happen. According to some, it did to a degree, as the original was "inspired by real events".

Freddie Kreuger isn't going to come out of the dream realm and kill you in your bed, but a stranger like this conceivably could.

It looks like it's trying harder to be scary than the first one. It looks less creepy.

Looks like it should go straight to Netflix.

The creepiness of the first one is what made it great. Almost no score outside of “Mama Tried” playing on a scratchy record. Scared the bejeesus out of me for a long time because of how it felt less like a production and more like a scary true story.

This movie pissed me off so much. How do you have a shotgun and let prancing teenagers kill you? I would have stormed outside and beat the dog shite out of all 3. If I found the shotgun, it would really be over then. I get being scared at first, but that would pass. I can't imagine the sequel being any different..

Looks like they are just remaking the first one with 2nd string actors.

Wasn’t the first one based in part on the Keddie Cabin Murders?

I thought it was based off the Manson Murders.

Definitely not Manson. IIRC. one happened in Europe. It was an amalgamation of several true stories.

Well, I liked it, but it wasn't as strong as the first.

Them > Strangers

It has a bunch of kids who are way younger than in the Strangers...and it is far more cat and mouse than The Strangers.

The kids seem to be just playing a game that goes deadly.

The Strangers is straight up in your face - it's a slasher pure and simple. There's no ambiguity like in Them. Which has almost no gore.

But The Strangers has the gratuitous final scene.

I would't qualify the first Strangers as slasher. It's more psychological horror. Prey at Night makes no bones about it, but I'm imagining that since it's so much longer after the first, they've become far more callous to taking human life, too.

The original was really good about putting you in a "what would I do?" frame of mind. "Get to the truck! shite! They wrecked the truck... Go back to the house and regroup. Try to get to the barn. Surely there's some kind of weapon out there... They've already thought of that, what do we do now?"

Prey at Night doesn't have that kind of move-countermove dynamic, unfortunately.

The trailer turned me off to this one. I remember when the first one came out the original director talked about making this a series. I'm disappointed he's not directing this one.

There's definitely a way to bookend these movies and make a series out of them, if one were so inclined. I just wonder how much random terror you can enact and keep it fresh.
