It's decent movie for what it is but I don't find it all that rewatchable. A bit too cheesy at times just like it's twin "Days of Thunder".

Wut? Both of these movies get watched any time they come on.

Maverick is so cool!!!
I never thought many of Tom Cruise's 80's characters were cool. He's brave in Top Gun, and he cares about his mates, but he's an a-hole.

He either starts out, or ends up being, an a-hole in all of these:

Risky Business
Top Gun
The Color of Money
Rain Man

Was he an a-hole in Coacktail. I've never watched than a couple of scenes of it. Seems like I remember his mentor in it being a big a-hole.

Born on the Fourth of July is the only 80's movie where I don't remember him being an a-hole.

Save for a few roles, he's not really an a-hole in most movies in the 90's and beyond.

The nostalgia factor on this board, from people who were kids in the 80's, is ridiculous They think all of the John Hughes movies with Molly Ringwald are good.

Uh, yeah. He pumps and dumps Ali with an i because she's not rich...and Coughlin's law was to find a sugar momma.

Which he does.

But it turns out he knocked up Shue and unbeknownst to him, she's filthy rich. So he has that ruh-roh moment and like all Tom Cruise movies in the 80's tries to redeem himself in the last 10 minutes.

It is very over-rated but can’t touch the Dark Knight as the most over-rated of all time…the two are not in the same league…
But it is definitely aver-rated nostalgia-filled or not

You know how I know this is not true.

Crash has an Oscar, for BEST PICTURE
Avatar
The Dark Knight Rises (better than Das Boot and Amadeus, yeah ok)
Etc.

Sorry (dKR)it is always the most over-rated film of all time to me…so much was made of that crap-fest it was unbelievable…I’m not sure why so many people bought in that it was a good film…now it doesn’t get nearly the support it did when it was first released…but god it was a terrible movie.

As 80s military love stories go, An Officer and A Gentleman was better.

Because An Officer and a Gentleman was mainly the love story with just a bit of military stuff. Top Gun was the opposite. It was an aviation/military movie with a little bit of love story on the side.

Did your parents or guardians allow this to happen without getting punished for it?
