I guess people are expecting these smaller budget movies to spend a ton of money so they can compete against the large blockbusters for commercial air time

Why do people bitch about this? Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc all have these types of offerings. And ten years ago, these movies simply don’t get made or they get made with comically shitty production value.
Why complain? I don’t feel bad if I watch a shitty movie on Netflix. I do if I have to fork over $20
