I'm glad the first and most important thing they got to addressing was a paper boat made by Galadriel as a child. Just compare that to the start of the film trilogy. I'm glad they got to the important things first. What a clown show that was the first thing this show thought we needed to see, even if that scene is important later on.

It just establishes Galadriel’s motivations for the entire series by showing the viewer her relationship with her brother. No biggie.

Why is it that The Silmarillion has never begun to approach the popularity of The Hobbit or of The Lord of the Rings?
Because the Silmarillion reads like a history textbook.

The others read like novels.

Assuming you read it, you know that. Content isn't the reason it is less popular.

What? I find both of them fascinating.

Not really. What exactly did we learn from the entire sequence?

Galadriel is really a boring character, I agree. There is a fine line between determination and bitchy. She comes off as a petty, horrible leader. She is overly emotional and weak. I love how 8 elf warriors just get their asses handed to them but super Galadriel had to handle the job. Just stupid.

Then there was super orc that could be run through and keep on coming. Took another woman to show all those men what to do.

This may be exhausting.

Yeah, the healer fighting the super orc and easily winning was kind of stupid. But other than that, I was entertained. I don’t know much about the history of middle earth and vala. I’m assuming that’s Gandalf with the pre-hobbit people. I don’t like the Elrond actor or the character right now. There really isn’t a single strong male lead at this point.

i was really impressed with the production value and visuals...outstanding.

the problem for me is the story and dialogue isn't very interesting and didn't hold my attention. in fact, i fell asleep halfway way through episode 1 and went to bed.

i'll try again later today to watch the rest.

also the vibe of it kinda bothers me...the tone and atmosphere doesn't feel anything like the lord of the rings movie trilogy to me. in fact, it kind of felt more like star wars with the overproduced 'orchestra' background music in most of the scenes.

ditto. i got exceptionally bored after the snow troll scene.

i can bitch about WoT a whole whole lot, but it at least kept my interest most episodes.

that being said, production values were through the roof.

Gandalf was basically an angel. He was an Ishtari. He arrived knowing his purpose and being able to fully communicate with the peoples of middle earth because he come from the same place as the elves and dwarfs. He was basically sent with 4 other Ishtari to support the people against Sauron; another Ishtari. The idea he would only know the dark language of Mordor that does not exist now is weird.

WoT is a good shout for a comparison to this based on what i've seen thus far, although i found that equally boring as well and couldn't make it past the first few episodes.

So it’s definitely not him or another wizard? He’s just giving off those vibes to me and talking to the bugs like he did the moth.

I have read all of Tolkien’s books, including the Silmarillion, and I watched last night expecting to hate this series. Maybe because my expectations were so low I actually enjoyed it.

Visually it is hard to beat by anything else I’ve ever seen. I knew Galadriel’s character would be butchered before ever watching, so it was not as over the top as I expected (this still is not a good excuse though for what should pass as acceptable), however I know my opinion is skewed by being in the very small minority of who has read all the books. So I have to try to look at her character through fresh eyes, which is a character full of flaws and that is difficult to accept.

The only scene(s) I really had a problem with is her jumping from her ship in the middle of the ocean and spending who knows how long simply swimming. Just a rash and nonsensical move by someone who should be amongst the most wise is just a shame.

What is this show supposed to be: Lord of the Rings or The Galadriel Show? No if they’re going to talk about the Second Age, you’d think it’d be more important to set up the Trees, the Silmarils, the Oath of Fëanor, and what led to the founding of Numenor. It’d be as if Jackson started off Lord of the Rings with Bilbo adopting Frodo and just briefly mentioning the One Ring.

Should it not be her show? I’m okay with her being the main focus. They have to have someone right?

No, it shouldn’t. Honestly Galadriel is not all that central of a figure in the Second Age. Elrond is a more important figure at this time. If you were to force me to write this series, I’d probably choose Isildur as the main character.

She’s pretty important to the story around the creation of the rings of power.

I figure That’s the main plot line and they are taking this and that from other footnotes and appendixes.

Right? I feel like OML is just upset for no reason at this point. We really don’t know exactly what the focus will be. But because the prologue didn’t go into the detail he wanted and there are black actors, he’s triggered. I think the prologue was fine. All the audience really seems to need to know is that the elves went after this evil guy who destroyed their light/trees and her brother was killed going after his successor. So she’s out for revenge after fighting for centuries. If the audience doesn’t need to know more to understand what’s coming, then so be it.

Game of Thrones didn't, until the last season

Eh Daeny, Tyrion and John Snow

Nedd in season 1.

This show will have lots of lead characters. Episode 2 really has a few extremely interesting story line apart from Galadriel that take up much of the episode.
