The Last Duel flops with 4.8 million. "Give us original movies" they say.

That's all I ever hear from people, yet no one ever shows up to support these films

quote:

Halloween Kills was a destination event for younger consumers, who are thus far fueling the box office recovery. Among ticket buyers, 73 percent of the audience were 35 and under, including 44 percent under 24. The audience was also ethnically diverse;  Caucasians made up 38 percent, followed by Latinos (33 percent), Blacks (16 percent) and Asians/Other (13 percent), according to PostTrak surveys.

The pic posted the best start for a horror film since the COVID-19 crisis commenced, besting A Quiet Place Part II ($47.5 million). Throughout the pandemic, superhero and horror offerings have done the best.

Green’s movie had no trouble winning the weekend ahead of James Bond installment No Time to Die, which tumbled a not-so-great 56 percent to $24.3 million in its second outing for a 10-day domestic total of $99.5 million.

That’s part of the reason why Ridley Scott’s A-list The Last Duel bombed in its debut with $4.8 million domestically. Set in 14th century France, the movie stars Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck.

The Last Duel, opening in fifth place, needed older adults even more than Bond; 80 percent of the audience was 25 and older, including a hefty 50 percent over 35. Ethnically, the audience mix was 63 percent Caucasian, 17 percent Latino, Latino, 11 percent Asian/Other and 9 percent Black.

Yeah give us original moves that don’t suck.

Not sure how another Affleck/Damon movie is “original” anyway. The trailers looked like hot garbage, no way I’d pay to see that movie.

Halloween Kills gets it.

I’ll be in the theater for Dune and The French Dispatch this Thursday and Friday. I had zero interest in seeing the Duel movie. Trailer didn’t do its job.

Last Duel just didn’t look like a movie I wanted to spend money on. It might be a good movie, but it doesn’t look very enjoyable.

Based on the previews, The Last Duel did not look very good. Halloween Kills looks super fun though.

Yes. It’s not a “feel good story” by any stretch of the imagination. Even the good ending isn’t entirely good. But it’s a beautifully shot film with excellent acting and a good story even if it drags just a bit, with an excellent penultimate and ultimate scenes.

From what I’ve read. Halloween kills looks like a garbage follow up to the excellent reboot.

People like empty entertainment I guess while screaming for new, original stories.

The “they” you speak of can’t make millions of other people have a good taste in movies.

that's pretty much the point I make whenever people bitch about Comic movies.

everyone says "gimme something other than Comic Movies", yet when they do no-one gives a shite and sees it.

How many commenting has seen The Last Duel? I saw it and thought it was the classic good side of Ridley Scott. Well acted, well written and wonderful cinematography. Add in they did a good job on historical accuracy (it is Hollywood still but damn good).

That’s the point. It’ll take multiple positive threads to rekindle the interest that I lost after seeing the promotion for this movie and get me to the AMC.

And they started with a negative balance with Affleck, Damon, and Driver doing British accents.

I think the issue is that "anything new" that a big studio is going to put into theaters ends up not being good. There are plenty of great new shows and films on smaller scales, but they're not being backed by big studios.

They’ve done like 2 movies together since Good Will Hunting and both were Kevin Smith movies.

Affleck was surprisingly the best on the accent front, and yes, I suppose for some it could be distracting, but it wasn’t enough to take me out of the film.

But the last duel looks like a lazy retread of good will hunting. Obviously.

I was going to the theater for this one as well. Then I found a quality download of it. Excited for movie night at home for this one

Oh yeah. Let's make another unnecessary remake of an old classic or another average superhero movie. Need more of those.

Yeah, it just doesn't look that good. Are they making you wear masks? I'm not sitting through a movie with a mask. I would normally go see a movie like this if it got rave reviews.

I would not either BUT my COMP theaters do not. So the trailer may have been blah but the story is interesting to anyone who likes history especially the Middle Ages. On top of that it is a true story that is well executed. Fight scenes are brutal and well shot as well.

Two guys fighting over a girl set in medieval times didn’t seem appealing.
