I just finished watching this movie. I highly recommend it if you like dark-ish comedies and an entertaining take on the child detective genre. Anyone else seen it?

I was curious what this movie was, didn't know much about it but might give it a try.

Is this a thing? I’ve never really heard of that before.

Yeah it’s really entertaining. I laughed pretty fricking hard several time s, and it’s a fun story.

I meant to start a thread on it a few weeks ago when I watched it.

Had a chance to catch this recently.

It was surprisingly good, darker than I thought it would be but still funny. It’s definitely worth a watch, and a different character than Seth Cohen for The OC fans out there

Variety

quote:

Adam Brody delivers a layered performance as a past-his-prime PI in debuting director Evan Morgan's sharp crime tale with shockingly dark twists.

In short, you won’t find something as young-skewing as “Harriet the Spy” or “Encyclopedia Brown” here, as “The Kid Detective” has much darker ambitions in store. Splendidly summoning film noir-esque vibes, classically ghastly bad guys and femme fatale types out of a whimsical small town full of grotesque mysteries, this bold and often surprisingly humorous film — think of it as a more mainstream version of Rian Johnson’s “Brick” — grapples with themes related to murder and abuse, as well as the existential dread of its central recluse, who fell grossly short of the promising life he thought he was meant to have in his younger days.

Watched last night. Thought it was really well done for what it was. Entertaining and more thought provoking than I imagined it would be. Had some really funny scenes.
