The Hurt Locker: one of the most unrealistic war films ever made
Posted by Jack Ruby on 5/9/22 at 10:55 pm225
According to one former Green Beret who deployed during the 2010s, The Hurt Locker is basically one of biggest piece of shite war films ever made from a straight military perspective: LINK
Is it a good movie? Yes, especially the acting and chemistry between the 3 leads. But is it remotely realistic? Not even close.
Best line from the review:
"So, he goes home...and the cereal ailse fuuuuuucks him up! He just can't deal with the cereal aisle..."

My brother was in the infantry and he said there really isn’t one that nails it.
But when there was action, Black Hawk Down is probably the closest.
Full Metal Jacket was the most realistic boot camp according to him.

Yeah that's about the only criticism you hear regarding this movie.
If that movie was made today it would probably be the tampon aisle.

In a major assault I believe opening scene from Saving Private Ryan, but in modern combat yes BHD event, though it was one of the biggest Fubar of a mission since the Tet Offensive for US military.

That times 5 as I had 5 DIs at Parris Island.

Kathryn Bigelow also won Best Director and Best Picture as an added f#$% you to James Cameron at The Oscars
I have 0 problem with Hurt Locker beating Avatar. As flawed as Hurt Locker is, it’s insanely better than Avatar.
The only reason I can’t say Black Panther is the most ridiculous best picture nomination ever is because Avatar was nominated before that.
And I really like both Avatar and Black Panther.

Great movie, but not realistic in the slightest. No war movie is though. If you wanted a realistic bomb defusal scene, it would take 5 hours
he's being pretty dense here. it's not that the cereal aisle is triggering anything, he's just in the grocery store and realizing how much he misses the rush and wants to go back

Yeah, I thought the grocery store scene was pretty clear.

The Barrett scene has to be one of the most ridiculous sequences in major film

I thought it was kind of lazy, in the sense that the grocery store/mall breakdown thing is a trope. But it's well known even to non-military people so I'm not sure why it's particularly objectionable.

My cousin is a Ranger and says the same thing. All have many flaws but Black Hawk Down gets closest to correct.

What made it worse was his cashier's name was Martha.

---My uncle was a Ranger in WW2 and made 5 landings. He said the only inaccuracy in that opening scene was, there was no smell.

I think I could find my own form of rushes here at home if I were married to Evangaline Lilly.
