Brace yourself, CW fans — another streaming service is on the horizon. According to reports out of WarnerMedia's TCA winter tour stop earlier today, the shows that The CW licenses to Netflix will likely end up exiting the streaming giant later this Spring.

WarnerMedia creative chief Kevin Reilly was on hand to answer questions about the company's new streaming platform. That's where he revealed it's their intention to keep all of their television shows — including Riverdale and The CW's Arrowverse shows — on their in-house streaming service.

"You can expect the crown jewels of Warner will ultimately end up on the new service,” Reilly said.

They are just guessing at the timing in the article based on when the contract is up. Warner doesn't even have their service up yet so just like they gave Netflix Friends for a bit longer, maybe the CW shows will get another year. For those that this will be a problem for, the CW has an app that lets you watch their shows when they air free without a login.

I'm seriously about to ditch all of these streaming services and just stream these shows illegally. I don't want to have to subscribe to service after service just to watch one or two shows. It's a gross waste of money.

That's only for the most recent 5 episodes and if you want more, you have to pay a subscription.

God I miss the old days when Netflix had everything in TV and movie history for only like 7-8.99 a month.

I'm really sick of every single company trying to build their own streaming service. People cut cords so they could pay less on their cable bill. After a while we are going to be paying close to the same again with site after site forcing us to buy their new streaming service. Something has got to give.

And eventually it'll all be packaged again like the cable we've known.

NETFLIX is aiming for domination with almost 90 feature films on the books for 2019. They are courting major players for original content. CW and the likes will come back around on certain properties once they realize people aren't into so many streaming options.

NETFLIX is betting that people don't want to bother adding so many different streaming services or missing out especially when some of these big features arrive (Shaft and Triple Frontier are generating buzz)

It's a pain in the arse right now, but Netflix does need competition.

Netflix right now is like Amazon 5 years ago. Growing fast and consumers love it.

Fast forward 5 years and Netflix begins introducing commercials, raising rates, etc. It's coming if they have no competition.

Disney Plus
NbcUniversal
CW

All coming soon to OTT. It'll be interesting, I'm not sure the market will support all of these plus what is already out there.

I think these other services are going to eventually fail and come crawling back to Netflix. All the evidence you need is the show You. It was practically unseen on a niche cable network, but it goes to Netflix and is seen by 40 million accounts in the first month. Netflix and the bigger services will have the built in audience to monetize these shows and the smaller ones won’t.

unless you have a catalog like what Disney is building, it's going to be difficult

it's just the brand name/familiarity issues creating a lot of barriers to entry into the market. it's why prime memberships getting the streaming services was pretty genius (it was effectively free shite for people who had been paying for years)

it's going to be a few years of separation and then a lot of combinations again, but it will NEVER be like Netflix 2011

Its a pain but its not a surprise. Right now streaming is THE hot thing for media companies. They see Netflix rolling in cash and don't realize it took that company a long time to get there (and a significant expenditure of cash).

I remember when Netflix first started to roll out their streaming service... and there wasn't a damn thing on there. It took them a couple of years to build up enough content to get people to watch. Thankfully they had the rental service going to keep them afloat.

Now Warner Media has a ton of content, don't get me wrong, but how much will be available when it gets started? How much will it cost? Most importantly... once folks burn through the classic content will you be producing enough content to keep them around?

I can hammer out a season of The Flash on Netflix in a week or two. Assuming I faithfully watch every single series that CW puts out that I could possibly want to watch (which is a stretch) then I'm done 2, maybe 2 and a half, months in. Maybe I will carefully pace myself and get to 4 moths, which means for 8 months I'd have no reason to keep the service. With Netflix there is a variety of new content to keep me around until the new seasons of the CW shows roll around.

Its annoying because the CW/Netflix partnership was a good working relationship for both companies. Netflix gets shows that are popular on their service. The CW gets a nice paycheck for material they've already produced and doesn't have to deal with the hassle of building a streaming platform and developing that revenue stream from scratch.

Oh, hell, who am I kidding? Whether we like it or not we are going to have every media company on Earth putting up their own streaming service. Fine. I hope they have a plan for the lean months when folks get finished watching their shows and cancel their subscriptions.

That's what's going to give.

Everyone will pull their content for their own services, start their own streaming services. People will refuse to pay. They realize they will make more money on the licensing. They will license it to a mega-streamer (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon).

Either that, or everyone will go back to DirecTV and they can eat a dick

People bitching because shows they can watch for FREE on TV, then FREE on an app, aren’t available four years later on Netflix.

So suck it up and don’t buy them.

Stick to Netflix.

If the oversaturation of streaming services fails, or if it’s more profitable on Netflix then it’ll come back.

It won’t If most people bitch about it, but voluntarily pay for it as if the CW on streaming demand is a must have.

I'm gonna stop you right there. The CW is most definitely NOT free. I have to pay for it just like I have to pay for the other non-network channels I subscribe to for cable.
