The Bounty (1984) - Underrated?

Just finished a rewatch of it the other day.
To me, this movie never really gets enough attention or recognition for being arguably the best retelling of the most famous mutiny in naval history.
I had forgotten how entertaining Anthony Hopkins was as the duty bound and harse disciplinarian Captain Bligh, and well it works in contrast with Mel Gibson's mostly laid back portrayal of 1st Mate Fletcher Christian.
Add to that, a great story telling that allows the viewer to see the conflict from both the perspective of the the Captain who is driven to near madness trying maintain order and discipline, and the crew driven to mutiny because of the relentless discipline and tormenting from their Captain.
You can empathize with the crew or Captain Bligh, while realizing neither side is 100% justified in their actions.
The casting lineup is insane: Hopkins, Gibson, Liam Neeson, Daniel Day Lewis, and even Laurence Olivier (Holy shite).
And did I mention the film contains
SO
MANY
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS.
And not your typical native savage saggy boobs. I'm talking quality, tan, perky, I would die motorboatin in front of my mother and wouldn't give a damn, BEWWWWWWBS.
The film is rated PG because apparently in 1984 there was "National Geographic loophole ", where women south of the equator could appear topless without being considered obscene.
It's streaming on Prime now, give it a watch. It's worth it for the bewbs alone.

The Bountybis great, but the old 1960s Brando version is spectacular.

No
It's pretty boring and Gibson is dull. It does get one thing right, in that it shows FC and Bligh as friends before the mutiny
The '35 version is not very accurate but is still a very solid piece of commercial filmmaking
The Brando remake is no more accurate than the '35 and quite a bit duller. And the Pitcairn Island section is virtually fantasy. Great cinematography, though
I've hoped there would be a miniseries, one that would show the mutineers' lives on Pitcairn.

1935 Version is by far and away the best version of the story.
Kafka i cannot see this story making a good series. Maybe if they did a 3 way story, covering the events in London, Bligh and Pitcairn.

The Bounty Trilogy: Mutiny on the Bounty, Men Against the Sea and Pitcairn's Island by Nordoff and Hall covered all three stories. Fantastic read. Great basis for a series on Paramount.
