In an interview with Collider's Editor-in-chief, Steve Weintraub, Leslye Headland spoke about how the series set during the High Republic era compares to Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi. While the two stories take place in different centuries, they might have more in common than expected, sharing a mutual questioning of the way the Jedi operate. Here's what Headland had to say when it comes to the treatment of the Jedi in The Acolyte:

"I think it’s difficult to do a show that is critical in any way of the Jedi. And I think that you saw that with [Rian Johnson’s] film. Do you know what I mean? Like, I think that, especially in that moment, people were very nervous about saying this particular institution may not be the light and perfect, stunning group of heroes that are totally nobly intentioned. And one thing that I think Dave would say is that they are fallible. That's really the story that George told with the prequels, right? The fall of this particular group."

But Kathleen Kennedy isn't afraid of any potential outrage concerning the plot of The Acolyte. During the interview, Headland also talked about the process of informing the executive about what the themes behind the series would be, explaining to her why a story where the Jedi are not presented in a flattering light was necessary for Amanda Stenberg's character's journey. Here's what the showrunner had to say when speaking about the studio president's reaction to her pitch and any potential internet backlash:

"But I think when you think you're going to tell the story about bad guys, and the Jedi’s might be the antagonist to those Jedi’s, I think that makes people nervous. But it didn't make Kathy nervous. And I will say that in that room, when I pitched her, it was probably one of the most exciting things because it felt like a conversation, and less like I was up for a job. It felt much more like, 'Okay, but what are you going to do about this? And what are you going to do about that?' And so I was able to fold in what I know about Star Wars, and what I love about Star Wars, into what she's always pushing for, which is, 'What's the emotional throughline?'"

Well she should definitely be used to it after the total failure of a movie that they're comparing this latest one to. And if she didn't learn after the outrage from that last pile of crap, then she'll just prove everyone right that she is an absolutely horrible franchise runner.

The Jedi represent white males and they will destroy the mythos behind them

A hyper woke takedown of the Jedi and toxic masculinity

Critics score 98
Audience score 31

I doubt it will be more critical of the Jedi than Clone Wars. I don’t even feel guilty about watching Order 66 after what they did to Ahsoka

Anyone holding out any hope that Disney can make something related to Star Wars that ISN’T dogshit is delusional. The women in charge of Lucasfilm hate the fans and despise the source material and won’t be happy until they burn it all down and turn it into a narcissistic monument to female empowerment.

Headland seems to at least have a (very dark) sense of humor. The truth with be in the casting. You see that in the last few movies where the good guys are "diverse" and the bad guys are white.

As far as making the Jedi corrupt, they were. With no visible enemy to fight, "good" people will try to outdo each other. You see this with how the Left tends to eat their own.

At this point the prequel trilogy is looking like Oscar worthy cinema to me compared to how this sounds. Just goes to show you talent is not necessary to achieve power.

How long before season two of rings of power is going to seize this idea and have those evil infighting elves! Lol

Can Elon buy Disney and fix it? I’d chip in to see Kathleen Kennedy thrown out on her arse and her box of stuff from her office chucked out a window

Prequels did it. Remember the Jedi’s diminished connection to the force? Turning themselves into soldiers instead of peacekeepers? How they treated Anakin? Inability to see the Sith Lord that was running the entire thing?

Clone Wars did it, too. How Ahsoka was treated being the best example of the shortcomings of the Jedi in that show. Though there are probably many at LucasFilm working on new Star Wars content that haven’t watched Clone Wars.
