Taika Waititi Courted for Star Wars Movie

After Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the space fantasy franchise is going on a pause, in terms of theatrical movies. But that does not mean the process has ground to a halt.
Taika Waititi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok, has been approached to develop a Star Wars movie, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
It is unclear where things stand in those talks. It is also unclear whether the project is separate from the one being developed by Kevin Feige, with whom he closely worked on Ragnarok, or a separate Star Wars project.

Has there ever been another director who unexpectedly made it so big?

Ehhh, I just dont want it to be too much like Guardians of the Galaxy. Why is disney so dead set on making star wars a comedy?

Because they want the same success as the MCU. Quips are apparently quite popular now.

The entire MCU is quips. People are going to grow tired.
If Disney keeps trying to force the marvel formula on star wars, like they are obviously trying to do, this franchise will fail.
Superhero fatigue is just around the corner and turning jedis into superheroes is a bad idea.

The original trilogy had some levity and wasn't the humorless plodding sjw bullshite the last three became. Plus its difficult to be serious when you have such ridiculous plots. I laughed my arse off when Princess Lea did her little space walk.

But Star Wars fatigue is not around the corner, it's already here.

Jemaine Clement said he remembers having to beg HBO to let Taika direct an episode of flight of the conchords and look at him now

I know it was niche but anyone that saw "What we do in the Shadows" knew the guy that made it was going places.

Nearly every “comedic” line in this last Star Wars trilogy fell flat.
I like Waititi as a director, but I worry about turning Star Wars into a snark-fest. I think one of the problems we have with movies in general right now is that the characters don’t talk with each other anymore as much as react to what they are saying and doing. Audiences seem to have little tolerance for building drama. But they do seem to have an unlimited appetite for sarcasm and one-liners.
That’s not to say that Waititi can’t do anything else, but it concerns me when a director known for invigorating properties with humor is considered for a property that already has too much humor... and clunks on screen as a result.

Yes but they forgot that the droids are the comedians in the SW universe.

While I completely understand why they put the Disney Star Wars movies out first it is interesting to think of what would have happened had the Mandolorian come out first.
We would probably be looking at a sequel series lead by Favreau and Filoni with Chow and Waititi directing two of the movies.
I'm not sure if Chow can pull a full Star Wars movie off, but I would much rather have seen her take on it than He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Filoni
If he doesn't get the eventual Ahsoka movie then Disney should just close it all down.

Idk. This sounds good bc the episodes he directed of Mando were the best ones but that was a Disney+ series.
Something tells me that the higher ups at Disney will stick their hands in it when it involves the big screen. They are letting (for now) Filoni, Favreua, and Watiti do their thing on the series.
If season two still has that original feel and focusing on smaller scale star wars then I will have hope that Disney sees what needs to happen with the property.
