Before Christmas too. Immediately. They worked on Blade Runner 2049 and Guardians of the Galaxy. Very talented. But the bean counters said otherwise. Tragic because the new Sonic design looks great.

Wonder if it was just poorly managed or something.

Post production biz is brutal.
My wife is in commercial post and they are a paycheck behind b/c clients are taking their sweet fricking time (over 60 days late) paying for the work they've done. These are some big name companies that have no excuse for this shite but it is what it is. We won't be surprised if her company shuts down here pretty soon.

This is a common thing for these sfx studios. They get paid a set amount before the work which tends to be way less than the cost of the actual production of spx
But the competition is so high for these jobs they take them anyway, and the spx artists end up working for free for most of the production and eventually the whole thing shuts down from the weight of the production.
Look at almost every tent pole film and you’ll have a SPX studio get shut down soon after release.

What's even worse is a lot of directors, cinematographers, producers, and executives have zero understanding or respect for what post animators do.
Ang Lee (and his cinematographer) ignoring the VFX team during his Oscar speech for Life of Pi and later claiming they are paid too much for their work was disgusting. (the VFX studio that did Life of Pi shut down soon after)
With the way they continually get treated as unskilled and overpaid labor who just push buttons a massive VFX strike could be coming in the near future.

100%. It’s hard to get a solo Hulk film done right.

SFX houses have to bid with the hope that they can do it for that low number with the larger movies. The slightest overage and they're fricked. And they always go over.

Take the best parts of the live action series, have him traveling. No origin story, Edward Norten's film was almost in the right direction.
Sorta like how the Bourne series wasnt afraid to change scenery. Have a dr Banner who isnt trying to hook up the whole film either.
