quote:

A restoration of the pre-special edition of the film — thought by many to have been permanently altered by Lucas himself — was accomplished by a small group of Star Wars purists called Team Negative 1.

The new restoration doesn’t have the blessing of Lucas or current rights holder Disney, and represents the original version of the film that was officially disowned by Lucas in 2004, when he said in an interview with the Today show, “The special edition, that’s the one I wanted out there. The other movie” … “to me, it doesn’t really exist anymore. It’s like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I’m sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it.”

How exactly Team Negative 1 acquired the original print is a mystery, with Lucasfilm having claimed that all original 1977 negatives were given the special edition CGI treatment.

Now the question is where can I find this bootleg?

no, the question is 'who gives a shite?'

ETA: I'm just kidding. Felt like being a contrarian for a second. Carry on.

There's no doubt in my mind that Disney will release it eventually, even if they have to wait until Lucas croaks.

They are about making money, and they would have my motherfricking money (and pretty much every male my age's) if they released the originals.

At least we know it exists, si now it's just a matter of Disney releasing it. I'd gladly pay out my arse for a non bastardized version.

Obligatory, Han shot first.

Is the same as the Harmey version or whatever it's called?

Every time I see this I want to scream.

"Han shot first" is bullshite. Greedo never fired a shot at all, Han didn't even give him the chance to shoot.

True dat, but "Greedo never fired a shot at all, Han didn't even give him the chance to shoot." is a bit lengthy for a slogan.

Yeah I'm not sure about that. I never have either.

Yeah I get that, but some people actually believe Greedo fired a shot in the original.

Yes, the trilogy on laserdisc Lucasfilm packaged in the early 90's is the originals. It was called "The Definitive Collection". I believe it was released in early 1993. This was several years before Lucas announced he was going to release special editions.

Han murdered Greedo is short and to the point.

It was self preservation, manslaughter at best. No jury in the galaxy would give you a guilty verdict on murder when you've got a gun pointed at your face.

I don't think Disney can release it on their own.

Disney has the rights to the 'star wars universe', but 20th Century Fox retains all distribution rights for Star Wars Episode IV.
