I'm reading the Making of Star Wars book and it said the following: The Sandcrawler's tread systems were based on NASA designed vehicles. Because it was place on the border and because Tunisian military trucks were used by production, the Libyan government registered serious concern about what they perceived as a massive military mobilization on their border. They had to inspect it to ensure it wasn't a secret weapon.

So... mentioning the sandcrawlers...

When Obi Wan sees the destroyed sandcrawler he says the blast marks are too accurate to have been done by sand people and must have been Empire troops. But we see all through the series that stormtroopers can't shoot for shite. How god awful does that make Tusken Raiders with weapons and how completely pathetic does that make Shmi's husband Cliegg Lars inability to rescue her when she is kidnapped?

It’s almost as if the “Stormtroopers can’t shoot” is fake nonsense created by Lucas that is directly contradicted by his own world.

There are worse plot holes. Like how Beru is 18 in AOTC then 20 years later is in her 50s to 60s.

"R2 was supposed to disappear behind a sand dune but the remote control failed to stop and he wandered onto the set of Jesus of Nazareth."

I hardly see how Sand People anywhere in or near the Middle East starting or almost starting a war is noteworthy.

Obi Wan and Owen were age appropriate compared to their appearance in the prequels.

Obi-Wan was a huge smart arse/troll in the prequel era (including the Clone Wars series) so his comment is probably made in jest.

On a somewhat related note, Ridley Scott had to get special permission during the filming of Blackhawk Down, as he used actual 160th SOAR pilots and 3rd Ranger Battalion "stuntmen" for the fast rope scenes and bringing a large, elite foreign military force into a nation (in this case, Morocco). requires quite a bit of coordination, assurances and oversight.

The authenticity of the movie, while a Hollywood film, is pretty good (some liberties of course, like the names on the helmets, some compression of timeline, some composite characters, a couple of outlandish scenes) and is validated by this fact:

This is the first/only military film where the units portrayed are played by the actual units, specifically the 160th SOAR flying the helicopters and 3/75th Rangers doing the fastroping scenes - down to a handful of individuals who had participated in the Battle of Mogadishu some 8 years before.

Obviously there have been situations where actors portray themselves (Audie Murphy) or, for example, in The Longest Day, some of the actors took part in the Normandy Operation almost 20 years before. But Blackhawk Down was relatively unique in the unit level participation.

Just look at the locals in any beach town. They're either kids, or walking leather. Nothing in between.

The Stormtroopers were ordered to not hit them by Darth Vader.

BHD is an amazing movie, I always enjoyed it. It's neat to go back and see how many in it are big stars or at least known actors now.

I hate Blackhawk Down for making Ewan wear a terrible wig in The Phantom Menance reshoots. My World Geography teacher did give us bonus points for bringing a ticket stub back from the movie, however.
