F-18?

The first one made me fall in love with the F-14 Tomcat. The F-18 is dated now too, but would still seem the top choice imo. Unless the Navy wants to show off their new stuff.

They’ll probably have something about the shiny new f-35c pilots vs the f-18 pilots as being a plot point.

Maybe students complaining that they will be flying in the old craft when they have been flying the new.

Yeah I suspect there will be a lot of trash talk directed at millennial tech.

You do realize Top Gun is Navy, not Air Force right?

Navy doesn't fly the F-22 it'll most likely be the F-18 Super Hornet. Could be the F-35 though.

Just pointing out your “hope” literally can’t happen. Same as someone else who posted right after me.

Why are you thin skinned like a chick?

My biggest question is around when are they going to set it? Top Gun was released in 1986, presumably in present day. If Pete Mitchell was a Lieutenant and senior enough to be a section leader (3 times, put in hack twice by Stinger) and go to Miramar, he'd have to have been in for at least 5+ years by that point.

If you set Top Gun: Maverick in 2018/2019 and he's still in the Navy, he'll have been in for almost 40 years (judging from the poster I saw, he's an O-6). I guess you could make it about Maverick struggling with what to do with retirement looming.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a modern timeline film. They could have it take place a few years after the original film with the introduction of the F-18 or something similar.

With all of the issues and politics of the F-35, the Navy may not be too keen to show it off necessarily.

well people dont fly, but it happens in a lot of movies.

They could use the f-22 in the movie and just claim the Nay commandeered them from the AF in the army navy game for the use of top gun and people would just be like, OK.

The new film will feature Maverick, now a flight instructor, mentoring Goose's grown son

To hit on some of the other points, Charlotte Blackwood was a civilian instructor..I could easily see Maverick being in her position...

On the "reality" a little more, TopGun as it was back then, does not exist today

F-18 vs. F-35 but the plot twist is that in the climatic scene, Stinger shows up in his F-86 Sabre and takes them both out.

Maybe Mav is the only pilot the Navy has who can “tame” the F-35?

They should have an Iceman cameo as a Southwest pilot. Gives Mav a nod and climbs and puts his Airbus (whatever SWA uses ) into Zero G. Lol

The whole movie is about balancing out a story and recruiting for the Navy. I'm guessing F-35C will be what they roll out there. Nothing but the best for the next recruiting video...I mean, movie.

It's a movie, they literally could throw real world facts out the window

I'm actually surprised that the premise is not that Goose jr went Air Force (which is hurting for pilots)
