I didn't get to see it when it first came out in theaters and finally got the opportunity to rent it on Amazon. I wish I understood what it was the mainstream audiences liked so much about Phase 3 of the MCU. Clearly they have found a formula that works on the masses, however, that same formula doesn't work nearly as well on me.

I consistently see Killmonger atop the list of best MCU villains but he is no different than the vast majority of MCU villains that have come before him. Michael B. Jordan delivered a solid performance but his character was bland and forgettable. Chadwick Boseman was good as Black Panther and I really liked the chick who played his sister. There were some decent action scenes but I felt the CGI, specifically the CGI during the final fight between Black Panther and Killmonger, to be subpar.

Bottom line, Black Panther is a decent and somewhat entertaining comic book film but hardly worthy of the praise it has received since its release. I may watch again during a MCU marathon, but that's about it.

Final Grade: B-

Tomorrow afternoon I will check out Infinity Wars. Hopefully that one is better.

I also just watched it yesterday finishing up my MCU rewatch before Ant-Man and the Wasp next week.

Really liked it. Not one of the best movies in the MCU, but definitely not one of the worst. I'd go B+. Thought Killmonger was solid and all the acting was great.

It was light and fun. Nothing more and nothing less. I do not understand the love for killnonger. He seemed pretty generic to me.

At the same time, I really liked the actor who played Black Panther way more than most people.

I did like the world building despite it being.... weird.

Rhinos as the end took me out of the movie

I liked killmonger because he was the first villain in mcu that I was legitimately like “yea, ok. I totally understand why you are doing what you’re doing” it was almost as if he was relatable

Phase 3 of the MCU hit on nearly every movie except Black Panther. I think we all know why that movie hit critical levels of acclaim while being a middle of the pack MCU flick.

Same here. I never really watched the MCU as a complete set so I've taken this Summer to watch them in chronological order. Watched Black Panther earlier this week.

It's good. It got a lot of extra love from the media due it being a minority created movie. Stuff like that doesn't matter to me.

It's in the top half of MCU movies for sure. It's a good origin movie.

CA: Winter Soldier
CA: Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Avengers
Black Panter
Ant-Man
Iron Man
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Thor
The Avengers: AOU
Iron Man 2
CA: The First Avenger
Iron Man 3
Incredible Hulk
Thor: Dark World

Thats all I've seen so far

It is probably because you’re an Alabama fan. Phase 3 is all about fathers. I guess it can be confusing when your father is also your brother-cousin.

I don't understand what you don't understand. Guardians Vol. 2, Ragnarok, Civil War and Infinity War are all incredible movies and some of the best I've seen this decade TBH.

I mean, as far as fun movies go, they’re near the top.
Interstellar is probably my best movie I’ve seen this decade

They're just family friendly films. I don't care much for them, but my son loves them and that's why we keep going.

BP was boring to me, but I did enjoy Infinity War.

I think seeing reviews that BP was the next dark knight and that it transcended the super hero genre really made my expectations too high for what was just a pretty good mcu movie

Safe to say any review like that is bat shite and you’ll be awesomely surprised when it turns out to be true some day.
