Scorsese’s choice to “de-age” DeNiro, Peschi, and Pacino in The Irishman

Rewatching The Irishman and I must say that Scorsese choosing to de-age the actors instead of using younger actors is not only unconvincing, it’s distracting.
I find myself wondering how old the characters are supposed to be and not believing a septuagenarian can convincingly play a 20-35 year old.
Posture, stance, and general mannerism are that of old men (which makes sense) but are not that of the younger characters they are trying to portray.
Take this example. The scene where DeNiro’s character goes to the market where his daughter works to tune up the owner who shoved her.
LINK
It looks exactly like what it is, an old man trying to beat up a younger person. It takes away from the story and just looks downright ridiculous. The move is chock full of this.
Scorsese is a hell of a film director, but the choice to use the same actors and CGI to de-age them I think was a mistake.
Younger actors that can learn mannerisms of the older actors would’ve been a better choice in the long run.
What is your opinion?

It being like 4 hours long and boring was a bigger mistake.

Think how bad it would hurt to be kicked by those 8 inch elevator heels

Kill the Irishman>>>The Irishman

Meh I liked the movie. Not perfect by a long shot and you have valid points that I can’t argue against.
I’d say the best part is the last 30 minutes. Seeing the guys get old and die in prison or rot in a nursing home puts the whole thing in perspective. The fabulous and over the top Gangster lifestyle that we perceive from Scorsese’s other movies are just that - movies. And the reality is that these guys either get whacked, die in prison, or rot in a nursing home. Makes you wonder what it’s all for? (Although to be honest the final season of The Sopranos tackled the same themes first and better than The Irishman)

Yeah, we had no problem believing De Niro as a young Vito Corleone.

I actually enjoy this movie. It's an annual Thanksgiving watch for me. It has its faults, but it's a last hoorah for them, so I respect that.

It was way too damn long. It was also boring somehow with the subject matter.

Aren’t they doing this for that new Indiana Jones? As if the previous never should have been made Indiana Jones wasn’t r enough of a disaster.

I actually really enjoyed that movie. But yeah there were some distracting moments for sure lol.
Pesci also seemed like he was dead on his feet the whole time.

The market scene did look silly. Other than that it didn’t bother me.

It was a much different performance than you’re used to seeing from Pesci.
He wasn’t the out of control nut job like usual.
He was the mature and reserved leader.
I really liked the movie and don’t care that it’s long.
Long movies only bother me if I’m not enjoying them.

Recasting age appropriate is almost always better than CGIing a geezer.
Same shite with Luke Skywalker, just cast a new actor, the look alike they use already looks the part before they put on a new face.

I was OK with CGI-ing Mark Hamill for a brief scene. As many have pointed out, though, if they need a younger Luke Skywalker for another series or movie, Sebastian Stan would fit the bill perfectly.

Despite that entire ridiculous scene and it being incredibly long, I enjoyed this movie anyway.

Pesci was brilliant in this movie. They should have cast him and someone younger in the Deniro roll since Pesci's character was older and the boss of and mentor to Deniro's character. Pacino did a surprisingly good job. I was convinced he would be the weak link but it was Deniro. I can't imagine how Scorsese looked at that kicking scene and left it in. Most surprising thing is that Charmaine Bucco is still hot.

Really? I know AMC kind of made The Godfather a Thanksgiving viewing tradition, but I can't imagine watching The Irishman repeatedly.
Too long, too many 90's mafia movie gimmicks, and too sad watching old Deniro trying to play young Deniro. But I guess Deniro played an older version of himself in Once Upon a Time in America, so figured it would be easy to play a younger version.

The old-man giveaway is the awkward tension in the elbows and balled fists. A younger actor would have swung arms to go with the momentum of the kick.
