There's a great video on YouTube that explains how Shakespeare in Love and Gwyneth Paltrow upset the presumptive favorites Saving Private Ryan and Cate Blanchett that night. Even though the man is reviled right now, Weinstein did an incredible job campaigning for the movie.

OMG! Her videos are great. Great research and detail. She gets a little caught up in SJW bias, but really interesting stuff.

when i watch it i feel like it was made this year or last year because its so well done.

With our technology, why cant they make the modern day war movies appear that real?

It's all so gay. But when awards are based upon this, it's hard to take them seriously.

It's so gut wrenching that I have a hard time rewatching it.

I've seen it once and only once.

The scene where the american soldier is begging the german soldier to stop, as he's slowly driving that knife into his chest is still with me and probably always will be.

People mock Shakespeare in Love because it won and SPR didn't but is a really good movie. IMO of the nominees The Thin Red Line is what should have won. If Cate Blanchett had won the Best Actress and Supporting Actress would have won for playing the same person.

Yep.

I admit I fast forward through the scene where the coward couldn't shoot the German and the gi gets knifed..

Only to sit him later.

frick it makes me so damn angry.

Movie is fricking fantastic.

Edit: it's so hard to too watch the scene with the medic taking about his mother just wanting to ask about his day and him rolling over and pretending to be asleep... frick man. The story just destroys me when he tells it.

Good news is we don't really need an academy to tell us the definition of quality cinema.
