So my wife and I started trying to have a Friday movie night. She said earlier this week that she knew she wanted to see a Robin Williams movie, and I asked if she had one in particular in mind. Nope...

Fast forward to tonight and she doesn't know which one, so I ask if she's cool with my favorite one. She's apparently never seen this one and gives it a go. Spent so much of the movie laughing hysterically.

Can never see this movie too many time IMHO.

Some good movies. He just wasn’t my brand of comedy.

He does have some quality work but for me Good Will Hunting is just on another tier.

It's an unpopular opinion but I thought he was an astounding actor but one of the most cringey trying too hard comedians I've ever seen

Pretty much my take on the guy. He turned in some excellent performances in movies and many of the ones he starred in are among my favorites to watch. That's pretty much because he had a script to follow and directors didn't let him have free reign.

His impromptu comedy routines where he just winged it often got to be annoying to me. One of his idols in comedy was Jonathan Winters and he took on that persona and turned it up several notches like he was on crack.

I remember watching a show about Williams and his co-star on "Mork & Mindy", Pam Dawber said there were times she didn't know what was going on when Williams would go into his adlib mode and go off-script on the show, and it only got worse when Jonathan Winters made appearances.

He ad libs a LOT in his roles. Half of his time as the genie in Aladdin is ad libbed.

Nope I’m with you. Really enjoyed him as an actor, but hated his hyper coked out brand of comedy.

I'm talking about movies where he had screen time, not just some voice over in an animated kids movie.

Probably the 2 that had him with freedom were "Good Morning Vietnam" and "The Fisher King".

The Best of Times is one of my favorites. It’s different no doubt....but him and Kurt Russell played well together and it’s got some really funny parts.

Millenium Man is a lower list favorite of mine. I find myself watching it every few years when I see it on the schedule. They kept him on a tight leash on this one. You'd think that with him playing an android, they'd have him go haywire and start doing all of his impressions and voices, but no.

Which is why I hate Mrs. Doubtfire. They kept working in ways for him to "cut loose", so the entire time you're not watching a character, you're watching Robin Williams.

I thought he should have won an Oscar for The World According To Garp.

Not enough people have seen this movie.

For MTV/Board - there is much gender stuff - but Lithgow and Robin nail this movie. I know there was always that stigma that Robin stole comedy bits, but to me his true art was dramatic acting.

I could watch him in Good Will Hunting every day and be amazed. Garp is still one of my favorite movies that I can't explain to others.

how good is Garp? I've read the book a few times weirdly, but have never been super interested in the movie and I'm not sure why.

Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam are the 2 Robin Williams roles that I can rewatch a million times and not get tired of them.

That's his most underrated movie because nobody ever talks about it and it seems like most people haven't even seen it. It's a great dramedy sports film.

I can't give you a good answer here. I did not read the book and just stumbled upon the movie 20+ years ago or so.

It was very interesting and well made. I need a rewatch to help better.

I agree with others here too btw, Best of Times is one of those movies that everyone has seen that gets no love.

I may be in the minority, but my favorite movie of his is Cadillac Man.
