In an interview with EW, the 81-year-old actor confirmed he was making good on his 2016 claim that he was retiring from acting. The Old Man & The Gun is the last film in which he’ll act.

“Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I’ll] move towards retirement after this ’cause I’ve been doing it since I was 21. I thought, Well, that’s enough. And why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?” Redford said.

I typically enjoy Redford's movies, even the less notable ones that he has done in this century.

1) I didn't star in Jeremiah Johnson... 2) I didn't sleep with Natalie Wood... 3) Paul Newman never had me on Speed Dial...

He's had a great career by any standards. Lets be honest, with the sort of money he's made most of us would have hung it up a couple of decades ago.

Didn't he announce this a few years ago as well?

And he may be an old left wing bimbo but he's played some legendary roles.

I'm actually hopeful for The Old Man & The Gun. It looks like it has potential.

I haven't heard about this one yet. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say....is this going to be about some old guy and a gun?

He's 80+ years old (I think), and he has been one of the more entertaining actors and directors for a long long time. He deserves to retire sooner rather than later. He's had a hell of a career for sure.

Movie trailer

quote:

THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public.

Good cast. Looks like this movie has a lot of promise. I hope it turns out to be a good one, it will be a great way for Redford to go out.

I think Spy Game and The Last Castle are both pretty enjoyable movies.
