Better than either of the sequel movies and on par with RoTJ and ANH.

Yeah, I said it.

On par with A New Hope? No.

On par with Return of the Jedi? Yes.

Very few trilogies have their best movie in the finale, but the prequels did.

Revenge of the Sith suffers from the same dialogue issues all the prequels do. The “nooooo” sequence is fricking awful. It would’ve been much more powerful to see Vader say nothing and have him just start tearing the room apart with the force while the emperor looks on and smiles.

But the duel between Anakin and Obi Wan is a beautiful and intense sequence and you can tell Christensen and Macgregor put effort, real effort into it.

Being better than RoTJ and ANH is debatable. But it is something you could actually debate. It was not a bad movie.

I think what hurt Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones is that Lucas had not written or directed for so long. By Revenge of the Sith he had gotten some of his mojo back. Add to that he had zero oversight to steer him away from bad ideas and you get the Prequels.

Go back and watch it and try to keep the nostalgia out of it.

That movie has serious pacing issues. The acts drag on far too long and then makes quick transitions to the next one without any real explanation why.

It's a good introduction movie and obviously was a fricking masterpiece for its time, but the story is actually kind of hollow.

That’s certainly possible, no movie is perfect.

But...

mindblowing that a scene like that made it in. like something out of a david lynch or villenueve movie

It had some good scenes, but Anakins turn to the dark side is not believable.

No, it’s isn’t

Being better than two preceding movies does not, by itself, make a good movie

Just turned this on Disney+ to watch this because of this thread.

Edit: General Grievous was so bad arse looking IMO as well. Like a light saber wielding Goro from Mortal Kombat.

RotS is a helluva good movie. Probably #2 behind ESB.

Most stuff in movies isn't believable. the turn wasn't compelling. It needed to be on par with Luke learning Darth is his father or when he had his last fight with Vader.

Confession: I have seen every Star Wars movie (and I’m including Ewoks: battle for Endor) but I have never finished Revenge of the Sith.

It was a weird time where I just got married between AotC and RotS and I had always gone to see any SW movie with my dad. Even in college we’d wait till we could get together and see it. He went and saw it by himself since he figured I would see it with my wife and my wife went and saw it with friends without me while I was working. We’ve even seen tFA and tLJ together as well since then.

I wasn’t overly pumped about it because of AotC kinda sucking anyways but I just can’t bring myself to sit down and do it. I’ve seen most of the end including “I have the higher ground” and “Noooo” but not 90% of the movie.

I just finished a rewatch (did all the prequels this week). ROTS is the best of them but they all have better story and stakes than the sequels. There’s actual tension even though you know where the story is heading. I always know what will happen but no matter how many times I watch I find myself hoping something will be different this time and prevent the empire from forming. That’s the sign of a good story if you ask me

My children knew who Darth Vader was through pop culture references (big bad guy).

But I watched episodes 1-8 with them in order, biggest jaw dropping moment for my children in the films was when Anakin was tagged as Vader and started killing younglings.
