Report: MGM tried shopping No Time to Die to streaming services for $600 million
Posted by RollTide1987 on 10/25/20 at 7:56 pm10
After several delays that finally saw No Time to Die, the latest James Bond film, move its release date from April 2020 to April 2021, the movie studio behind it reportedly tried to sell the distribution rights. They talked to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Apple+ but none of them were willing to pay the reported $600 million price tag MGM was attaching to it.

I saw that it might go to streaming since MGM wanted the cash.
I'm shocked they thought they could get $600 million for it.

These idiots in Hollywood don't realize that without theaters, which they are basically killing by delaying these films, it will eliminate their industry as well.
Sure, Netflix and Amazon, etc can always produce those $12 million productions by Andy Samberg and Sophia Coppola, but the days of the $200 million blockbuster that netted you $1 billion+ will be wholesale gone.
No streaming service in the world is going to pay that kind of $$ for a movie. It's not like they will gain enough subscribers to offset that cost.
And by going all streaming, it also massively spikes the piracy of these films. Before, some people I guess would sit through a Cosmo Kramer in-theater pirate filming of the projection, but the peoduct is shitty and everyone would just rather pay the $10 and go to the theater anyway.
But now, a steaming film or show can be on pirate sites and platforms within minutes and it's the exact same quality that the paid subscribers just saw.
It's amazing how the same people that are basically advocating for all the madness and hysteria are the very people it will affect the most financially.
How many of these actors and producers are still going to do it when the pay is $50,000 instead of $5 million?? Welcome to the real world I guess.
