It was pretty good. Never read the book so can't comment on that comparison.

Loved: RX-78, Iron Giant T2 thumbs up, everything about about the race (except irl the key would've been found in hours, not years), Rail gun, Goro, The Shining, Tears for Fears, New Order. It was a blast picking out all the characters from other IPs.

Did not love: most of the real world scenes were cheesy, twisted sister (so many better songs to choose from for the beginning of the battle scene imo), TJ Miller.

I think overall the movie was a success. I looked the world they created and it was a pretty fun ride.

I think character development lacked, there was some cheesy writing (which is in line with the book) and overall the last 30 minutes was very Spielberg-y.

For a movie geared towards the tween group it did enough for me to enjoy it.

I saw it today. IMAX 3D is the way to go with this movie.

I thought the changes from the book made sense and kept the film from bogging down.

I thought they killed the race scene. Really well done on that and how to solve it.

I'll be buying it after it's released. I expect it will play well on 4k HD.

They can be funny/entertaining but they can also be extremely obnoxious and pretentious and they absolutely have an agenda

They actually left out the most pretentious of them (Jay) out of the review since he was going to hate the movie simply out of principle. Mike and Rich would give the concept a chance, but even they hated it.

Hmm, I’ve always got the opposite out of Jay. It would be mike who id think wouldn’t last 5 minutes

I think Mike is the least pretentious of them. Jay is big into bullshite arthouse films (as both Mike and Rich shite on him about during this review) and not even out of pretentiousness, but Rich shits on everything which is why he usually doesn’t review things on the show (although it makes him perfect for Best of the Worst). I think that both Rich and Jay do not subscribe to Ebert’s Law, while Mike does.

Question:
Did I miss it that most of the planet could not be populated or something?

The Oasis was worldwide as far as I know, yet 5 people who met randomly online just happened to all be in the same city in Ohio?

It was already a 140 minute movie.

In the book 'the Stacks' (where he lives) are actually in Oklahoma, and he travels to meet the others.

I am going tonight to see it. I like RLM, but the source material for this book was fun, but not even close to being well written.

Everyone who is a gunter wants to be in Ohio since that is where the headquarters/servers for the Oasis are and the connection is faster. They skipped that whole part of the movie.

Spielberg had to cut corners there.

In the book they don't gel until the end and Wade is constantly under IOI's radar after the bomb.

But aech and Wade are close because they make use of IOIs network speed. Art3mis is Canadian and the brothers are Japanese.

Saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it. Kept my attention the whole time which is rare. Wasn't perfect but definitely worth seeing in theaters. Saw the standard version b/c 3-d makes me dizzy. I bet it looked awesome in 3-d though.

Wow.

This is the first time I’ve heartily disagreed with their assessment. Especially considering how many of their complaints are swept under the rug for other examples:

“Meh movie, but just another generic but fun entry to the Marvel universe!”

And how much they loathed it apparently. When they dislike a movie, they are typically rather clear as to why. This time, it’s a movie review where they regard the movie not even worth discussing (half the review is talking about other things, with the final 10 minutes just cracking jokes about the MPAA not batting an eye about one of the Shining recreations).

For fricks sake, the clearest critiques are “bland useless protagonist” (which is true) and “that one scene that reminded me of man of steel, but it could have actually worked in this setting, but...”

Wtf?

I don’t take their opinion seriously at all. They have an opinion of what they want and if a movie doesn’t check down the box for them, they will probably not like it. They’re very narrow minded.

I usually don’t like 3D, but this one was very well done and I didn’t have any issues. It was pretty awesome in 3D, but not jumping out at you like some 3D movies.
