Why in the hell did they cancel this show? Too bad there wasn't a Netflix around to pick it up!

The theme song was epically bad, and it didn’t get any better from there. I’ve tried, I really have, but just like new wave country I can’t understand why anyone finds it appealing.

Fox damned it from the start. They aired the episodes out of order. And to make things worse, they aired it on Friday nights which was typically seen as poor slot back then. Nobody had DVR’s at the time.

Yeah, the show actually has an underlying story building. So airing it out of order was a huge disaster.

Wasn't the first aired episode the train heist (which I think inspired Solo)?

And yeah, I wish someone would have been around to save it. Serenity wasn't a bad finale, but it could have stood to have a longer arc.

In my opinion, it's got to be the greatest 1-season show (unintended) ever; I have to qualify that because technically Band of Brothers could meet that list too.
Has to be among the highest quotable-to-episode ratio going.

It was right at that moment in time where it was possible for something to be "too good" for television.

Same thing happened to Freaks and Geeks.

The “out of order” argument is blown out of proportion. They aired one episode out of order. They wanted to air the train heist first because it was a better representation of the series, was fun, and had a quick pace. The actual first episode was slow and had less of a chance to grab viewers’ attention.

Watching it on DVDs, the action is very slow until you get to the train heist. I almost didn’t watch the series because its starts painfully slow. Once I got to the heist I was in for the long haul.

You are incorrect. It was mostly aired out of order and on top of that it got preempted several times by MLB games.

It was aired in this order.

2, 3, 6, preempted, 7, 8, 4, 5, 9, preempted, preempted, 10, 14, 1.

Fox didn't air episodes 11-13.

Date wise here is how it went.

02 - September 20, 2002
03 - September 27, 2002
06 - October 4, 2002
07 - October 18, 2002
08 - October 25, 2002
04 - November 1, 2002
05 - November 8, 2002
09 - November 15, 2002
10 - December 6, 2002
14 - December 13, 2002
01 - December 20, 2002

Episodes 11-13 were first aired on Sci Fi Channel in the UK.

11 - July 21, 2003
12 - July 28, 2003
13 - August 4, 2003

Also, this is the ad they were running for it's promo. LINK Not only did the people at Fox not understand the show they promoted it w/a 5 year old extremely overplayed song from a band in Smash Mouth that was experiencing some heavy backlash by that point.

I am a big fan of the show. I had never seen that promotional video. That is epically bad.

Whoa now buddy let's not go too far...

She was very attractive, but certainly wouldn't put her hottest TV woman ever.

Firefly is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. Have the DVD box set, granted it's only 1 season. Also have the collector's edition blu Ray of Serenity. Its amazing that great shows like that get canceled after 1 season but let shite shows stay on the air for years.
