Do you believe Big Tom Callahan just happened to have a killer heart attack on his wedding day or did Beverly (Bo Derek) and Paul (Rob Lowe) slip him something to cause the heart attack?

It's just awfully suspicious to die right during the reception when you got married to a con artist like Beverly.

It’s possible. But that would have been too dark for this movie. I’d rather just go with coincidence.

If it wasn't a Chris Farley and David Spade movie I may entertain that notion, but this isn't a movie to overthink. But for the sake of debate...Big Tom was overweight so a heart attack during a big party isn't out of the question.

I could stick my head up his arse to check his arteries, but I'd rather just take the coroner's word for it.

I think it was a natural heart attack because I think I remember a point later in the movie where Beverly was talking to Paul about how she didn't expect him to croak at the wedding before they could put their real plan in motion (or something like that)

I thought later in the movie they talk about their plan and fortunate they were that he died early so plans could accelerate more quickly.

ETA: yeah what Jamohn said

It was a coincidence. Later in the movie Paul (Rob Lowe) says this to Beverly which confirms it.

"Come on, this is working out better than we planned. I thought it'd take a year to bleed him dry in the divorce settlement. Instead, the guy croaks, you own half the company."

Edit: Y'all beat me to it.

Rob Lowe says that "I'd thought we'd have to drain him for months" or something like that...milk him for money , etc.

Classic 90s movie writing. Abrupt story advancement to move things along in 80 minutes
