I watched it again last night, and liked it even better this go-round. Easily my pick as best film of the year.
One thing I didn't understand, very minor, is at the very beginning, where Jason is in his car singing a song, why does he keep going "BOW! BOW!" ??

I have no idea about your question.
But I saw this movie last weekend and I’m still trying to figure it out.
I liked the way they filmed some things like the long take of Rockwell beating the shite out of the ad guy. I like when directors do things just for art’s sake. When it is done well anyways. The CGI deer was horrible.
But I didn’t like that there was no closure or repercussions for that crazy bitch. What evs.
I liked the way the themes of redemption swung back and forth.
IMO the movie was driven well by some really good performances.
Anyway.

My question was what was the point of the racist replacement cop? Just to fire Rockwell? Found that whole thing odd.
I liked it a lot. Loved the small after thought town vibe.

Another follow up: *spoilers maybe
How does Dixon not face attempted murder charges after the new Captain witnesses him throwing a half-dead dude out of an upstairs window?
And I’m struggling to find rapey guy’s motive for intimidating Mildred at her store, and her not going straight to the pd to report the encounter.
I’ve seen this twice, and while it’s certainly a great watch I don’t get the masterpiece talk.

I’m with you on the last part and I also wondered why Dixon wasn’t in jail.
It seems like we’ve had a run of very forgettable Oscar movies for many years now.
But that’s another thread.

quote:Charges could've been on the horizon. Look at all of the police brutality and wrongful death charges around the country and how long it takes for them to sort them out. The time frame in the film was just a few days.

quote:He got off on being the rapey guy. This was a prime opportunity for him to intimidate someone and get his kicks. Mildred was pretty messed up mentally. It's not like she acted predictably during the rest of the film.

I watched it because of all the hype I heard about it, and while it was a great movie, I don't think it's on the level of hype it's receiving

Best Picture of the year in my opinion — strong performances throughout, and the soundtrack complemented each scene perfectly. The scene where Harrelson commits suicide and explains his rationale for doing so added another layer of depth, as did the scene where she went to dinner with the dwarf and he left in tears, telling her, “I didn’t HAVE to hold your ladder.” The various minor characters added a lot. Then when the rapey guy turns out NOT to be the guy, it throws you for another loop. I kept thinking I had it all figured out, but nope.
I just want to know what’s up with that “Bow! Bow!”
