I believe I’ve seen it referenced that The Collector, Ego, and Grand Master are similar types of beings or at least belong to a certain group in the comics. Is Ego the only one that’s really powerful? The other two seem to only have Batman powers as in being rich. Are these characters wildly different in the comics than they are in the MCU?

The Collector and Grand Master are rich, powerful because they are basically as old as the universe itself.

The collector and grandmaster are Elders of the Universe. Which are just survivors of otherwise extinct races. Their obsessions keep them going.

Ego is presented as a celestial and claims the title himself. He is an unreliable source though and may just be claiming prestige because that's his thing.

Remember the collector showed us an actual celestial.

Don't really know how the Collector and the Grandmaster fit into the movie hierarchy of characters. Both seem "immortal" or at least extremely long-lived. As for powers, unknown if any, but Grandmaster (at least) seemed awfully unconcerned about being harmed. When Thor threatened him, he mocked him and said "that's rich". Just arrogance maybe, or perhaps he's truly indestructible.
Also didn't seem to care one bit at the end, when facing the mob after the revolt.

The Collector also seemed pretty secure in his safety and security, accepting another Infinity Stone after the Guardians blew up his home with the last one.

Didn't he already have one when the Guardians show up? Or were the events of Guardians before Thor: Dark World?

One thing that I never understood and maybe I just missed it but why would the Asgardians trust the collector with a infinity stone. The guy at best is amoral and at worst an evil slaver.

The Asgardians wanted to get the Aether as far away from Asgard as possible. The Collector might not seem trustworthy, but he is a collector and having an infinity stone would be the crown jewel of his collection. They're basically using his vanity against him. Although, I think he is collecting the stones too either for himself or for Thanos.

I think its safe to assume he wants all of them for himself.

Giving it to the collector is exactly the reason no one gave the One Ring to Tom Bombadil.

That nerd crossover is a bit too nerdy for me. Mind giving a bit more details?

Question, what happened to that stone? I mean when it “blows up”, what happens to the stone? Nothing?

Tom Bombadil is a power in middle Earth, incorruptible to Rings influence, and in most the chapters people skip in the books.

The issue is he would just leave it on a tree stump and prance off with his forest friends. So it can't work on him and he's useless as a protector.

The Collector just wants the rarest of the rare for his collection. You won't see him pitting the dark elf he collected against his Asgardian Valkyrie MIB.

So he's got the reality stone. But no real way to stop a guy like Thanos from walking up saying "What up?" And taking it from him.

Nothing it unleased it's power and destroyed his collection. Then Ronan took it.

I thought it was implied that Knowhere was Ego's skull.
