It’s based on one of the more darkly hilarious and brutal portions of history in the past 1000 years, but it just reeks of a Tarantino film. Basically what happened historically is that a bunch of a hardcore Christians take over a town in Germany to form their own brutal cult, and war, sex, violence, and hilarity ensues.

The two big cult leaders are complete characters that I think any A-Lister would jump at the opportunity to play. And why it’s darkly hilarious, I’ll let you in on one part: the guys trying to take back the town from the violent cult were instructed to do so at sunrise. Some of the troops get so blind stinking drink the day before the battle that when they see the sunset, they’re convinced that it was sunrise the next day and proceed to charge the town 12 hours before it was supposed to begin, leading to their loss and another few months of rebuilding the army.

Where I heard of this from is the Hardcore History episode “Prophets of Doom”, and I think it’s my favorite of his. It could make for a great violent movie that only Tarantino could do properly. Even the soundtrack possibilities for this movie could be great. But check out the podcast if you want to hear what I’m ranting about: LINK

Also here’s an abreviated rundown of the historical events in case your curious. Doesn’t contain a ton of the meat to the story, but here it is: LINK

Not sure why you are getting down votes. It's my favorite episode of Hardcore History. I think it would make a very entertaining movie.

I mean, there hasn’t been a single movie made about it yet. If done masterfully, it’s a shoe in for Best Picture. The story has everything you want in a movie. “Based on a true story”? Eat your heart out with this material. Even with a competent script, actors would be throwing each other under the bus for it. Sure it all ends in tragedy and everyone but the Duke trying to get back his town dies, but it would be a great darkly hilarious and violent film.

Here would be my cast for the Top 3:

Jan Matthys: Brad Pitt
Jan of Leiden: Leonardo DiCaprio
Bernhard Knipperdolling: Christoph Waltz

Not sure who the other Bernard should be, but I think it reeks of Tarantino.
