No entertainment needs, no reproduction needs or drive (not sure what happens to McBoner’s sex partners), no hobbies, no educational needs, no social needs; no individual needs or drives; nourishment consists of drinking an average of 8 “milk” cartons a day which takes a minimal amount of time outside of the those required to produce it and distribute it.
8 hours of sleep plus maybe 30 minutes total to drink milk during the day and maybe 30 minutes for any additional hydration based on work or bathroom needs.
15 hours a day for over 6 billion across the globe without any of the 13 to make happy. More time if 8 hours isn’t “efficient”.
What are their goals or plans each day outside of those with the 13 for those 15 hours?
Finding and maintaining food sources including storage and distribution across the globe (waiting for those fallen apples or inevitable deaths of others would leave time if that’s where it sits); maintaining power sources enough to maintain refrigeration & other livable conditions; staff and maintain hospitals for sick, addicted, and injured; any repairs, maintenance, or construction required to efficiently handle previous goals; and finding out how to infect the 13 which is still limited in bodies to process while the hive mind thinks of solutions and if they are satisfied stem cells and consent are they only way to change the 13 takes up less time now as they wait for their consent or death.
Maybe not right after the joining with all its chaos and cleaning and repairing required, but as days pass it seems like a lot of man power should be leftover worldwide away from the 13 (and their immediate areas or cities) to be getting earth ready for something we have yet to see. The 13 also haven’t seen it yet or been allowed to see it.

Watching E6 - about the only thing that could’ve caused her to react like that was exactly what we thought. I’m so over shaky cam, but a reminder everybody who’s taking a video - hold your damn hands still.
Let me guess, Vegas guy is not going to be impressed at all with Carol’s video, is he? I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation that has nothing to do with what she thinks it does. “Serving man” cookbook?
* called it.

In the story, it’s only been 12 days, but I am really getting tired of Carol’s antics. I get the anger toward the others, but how can somebody so established and educated or whatever she’s supposed to be have zero ability to connect with what remains of humanity? This is a sort of stubborn that only Hollywood could dream up.
And why is literally everyone else save for the one guy in South America so happy to go along with this stuff? I get that a majority might be OK with it for a while, but there would have to be three or four others who had varying degrees of not wanting to go along. I’m surprised one of them hasn’t all but murdered a bunch of others, if for no other reason, than they could.
And how long is Mr. Vegas gonna be able to keep up this act? He is well aware that he’s living in a simulation. Fine, go have your fantasy vacation for a month but it can’t last.

I thought the same thing earlier on.. all of that free time, unprecedented coordination, expert-level skill at literally everything, and elimination of countless industries should create an enormous amount of potential economic output.
But I will say this.. the food issue throws an interesting wrench in the gears. If they are truly facing mass starvation, one could argue that nearly 100% of their output should be focused on gathering/scavenging. And if they’ve reached the limit of what they can collect, you could also argue that the remaining time should be spent resting to minimize the calorie deficit. Almost anything they do that doesn’t involve food production is just going to speed up their demise.
Of course, it seems likely that whoever sent the signal has other motives so I’d be a little surprised if they were all purely focused on survival.
Something else I thought about.. when they run out of food, how does the hive handle rations? Do the weak cull themselves and willingly starve to preserve the strong?

I’ll see how the season ends but definitely slightly disappointed with this show so far.
It’s a great premise but it’s really dragging at times. Feels like it tries to hammer the same points over and over again. So many scenes are unnecessarily long and you know exactly what will happen.
To be honest, it almost feels like Gilligan has a big development/reveal planned for the end of Season 1 and is stretching things out to fill episodes

It’s gotten a little too ridiculous including with his pictures all over the place. The guy must have been a complete loser with women beforehand.
About the only thing that may be a little real at least during the actual act is the sex. Obviously real for him, but if the individual bodies feel pain then they should also feel pleasure from sex.

I did think it was a little odd at just how much be balked at Carol moving to Vegas though.
The Hive won’t be anywhere around Carol, so he would lose his perks if she is around.

I’m gonna cut the guy a little slack cause he’s at least bilingual and seems to know what he likes. It’s a bit campy, but he does have his style. Yet every once in a while, the façade comes down and he stops acting for a bit. Don’t know if we’ll ever get his backstory.
As for Mr. South America guy, he seems like he’s on a mission. Glad he finally got Carol’s video.
And eventually, we’re also gonna have to get the backstory of this alien DNA race. Were they sent by something else or do they just flit their way through the galaxy taking over species that have advanced enough technology to send and receive signals and have sequenced DNA? Someone or something so advanced should have the ability to uncover their own origin.

I imagine the sense of pleasure is assimilated into the hive mind and subsequently ignored.
I like the theory that the virus is meant to slowly kill off the entire population of intelligent beings so that aliens can colonize. If the aliens have some in-grained value system against killing, 13 individual humans could really frick shite up for them. Especially if one of them is military like Paraguay guy seems to be. And if Carol gets a nuke…but the show won’t go that direction obviously. I don’t think the show will ever actually introduce the aliens.
I think it’s interesting how 12 of them just don’t give a shite about any of this. It’s a bit unbelievable. I certainly would be the French guy for a while, and I can understand how spending your days banging OT 10s would be sustainable. But I cannot imagine seeing my child assimilated into some alien virus and me not being hellbent on getting him back. The Indian mom is really unbelievable here. “My kid has zero original thoughts or consciousness and he drinks dead corpse protein milk to survive, which he won’t survive in ten years, but it’s all good.” Yeah, okay.

What happens when one of THEM gets knocked up by Mr. Vegas? They can't abort the fetus, right? So is he going to be playing Adam to the world now? And would the offspring be 'infected' with the alien hive mind virus or would his immunity carry over?
So many questions, I doubt we'll get satisfactory answers though.

It’s a good question.
If the baby has the virus, will it know theoretical physics as an infant?
I’m surprised Carol didn’t ask this. Honestly, the lack of questioning bothers me. Once I discovered they can’t lie, I would be performing 12 hour daily interviews.

The comment was about the sex not being as fake as the other stuff the hive acts out for him as McBoner obviously feels it but the bodies of the hive would as well during the actual sex and react making it more real than his poker game and other parts of his life where the hive play characters and his fantasies.
But if anger directed at one can cause them all to have seizures and millions to die the intense physical pleasure and especially the intense feelings that would be likely directed towards them during the sex shouldn’t be that easily ignored. Not a deadly influence or effect obviously like anger directed towards them as being content is the default, but I just don’t think it can be ignored (and the show shouldn’t let it be ignored).

The hive is more content than happy. The effect of any strong positive emotions directed towards them including from the love of a mother towards her son or even towards them during sex (especially if the individual drone still feels the physical pleasure) is harder to discern by the 13 and maybe by the hive itself based on already being content, but seeing they made someone happy may be driving their extreme need to please and make the 13 happy at the cost of efficiency and resources for their own survival. Anger shut them down and made them flee Carol, but positive human emotions directed towards them may be causing issues as well just less dramatic and obvious.
Also, physical pain, hunger pains, and possibly physical pleasure including from sex are some very basic things that have helped drive humanity from the start that can’t be blunted on the individual bodies by the hive mind while they are happening, and therefore the experience is remembered by the hive.
The 13 weren’t supposed to be around still to distract from main goals. The ones around the 13 are experiencing things that would have motivated humans to act in both positive and negative ways as individuals and as groups.
Content, compliant, wanting to please, and doing no harm to others makes them ripe for a small conquering force, but with the 13 somehow overcoming infection it has also left the door open for small connections to humanity to still exist at times for the hive and possibly have some influence at some point on the hive’s decisions in both good and bad ways for them and the 13 that weren’t supposed to occur had the 13 become infected like everyone else.
What could 13 random people out of billions have that requires stem cells from each individual to modify the virus to affect each specific member of the 13? 13 is extremely small out of billions of people to just be some genetic mutation or defect that just happened to subvert a RNA virus sent from 600 light years away.
13 unless the Paraguay guy was shaken out of the hive during Carol’s outburst killing millions. It’s been a little vague on why they didn’t know about him especially since his mother is part of the hive. They said they just became aware of another like her just after the outburst. Unless he was presumed dead by anyone who knew him before the world wide infection it seems like they would have at least known he was alive before the event and that they didn’t have his memories before he made himself known to them.

She's not a runway model, but 'ugly'? Seriously, get your eyes checked. She's well above average, and she's got a seriously fit frame. Physically speaking, she's fine. It's her (character's?) personality that's the most off putting to me. I've not watcher her other work, some are saying she looked better with longer hair, and miss her pony tail look. But for her age (over 50!) and all, there's nothing wrong that i can tell.

also bugs me a lot that the french guy is essentially raping the woman. they have no free will any more so it’s non consensual sex
If/when Carol and the Hispanic dude figure out how to turn this off that French dude is going to be drawn quartered by all the women he raped or their husbands.
There's no gray area here. It's rape and there's going to be a reckoning.
