Evans' portrayal of Buzz Lightyear will not include being the voice of the toy line that Tim Allen helped make famous. Lightyear has been described as the story of a young test pilot who becomes the beloved Space Ranger who goes to infinity and beyond. This makes Evans' Lightyear the "real" version of the character who serves as the inspiration for the toys in the Pixar universe (voiced by Allen).

I mean I thought this was fairly obvious. Sad this thread is adults bitching and moaning about a casting that had nothing to do with Allen in the first place lololol gotta be offended by everything eh

I’m not lying I think a lot of people in this thread need Prozac. Dead serious

This is a kids movie from most of our childhoods that I am very excited of watching with my kids. The anger displayed here is pretty funny

Are we sure it's an origin story?

The timing certainly wouldn't work. Woody was an old timey toy, replaced with the new fancy space toy. I certainly didn't get the feeling that Toy Story was actually set far in the future and that the Buzz toy was based on real events in that universe.

So that leaves two scenarios. Either sometime in the future we modeled our space program after our favorite toys. Not too crazy an idea, but you would have to figure the character playing Buzz would reference the toys if that's the case.

Or more likely,

This movie is actually just a kid playing with the toys and we're seeing the story in his head. The last scene of the movie could be a reveal where we see a kid playing with the toys and realize it was all his imagination the whole time.

No reason that the voice would have to be Tim Allen in both of those scenarios. In fact, the voice would almost have to be different. Hell, maybe the kid in scenario number two had just watched an Avengers movie and gave Buzz Chris Evan's voice.

That's what the articles have been saying, that this is the character that the toy is based on. That doesn't make sense in the overall timeline (nothing in the Toy Story universe seemed to imply technology at that level), but who knows - maybe he arrives from another universe, or travels back in time due to how fast he was going.

And Tim Allen, who hasn’t said anything near as dumb or controversial as Carano and there hasn’t been any push to get him fired.

Oh fricking please. She didn’t say anything dumb or antisemitic. She was making the point that hate starts somewhere and eventually turns people genocidal. We are in that timeline. Gina was correct.

Evidently Toy Story FOUR wasn’t a money grab, but this is.

Yeah, this movie is fine even if it is a cash grab so long as it’s good. While Toy Story 4 is by no means a bad movie, it shouldn’t have been made. The ending to 3 was perfect. If they wanted another cash grab from the franchise, this is how they should do it.

a) Turns out his adventures were all in the mind of a Sci-Fi novelist or TV writer.
b) The writer from (a) is a time traveler.
c) The future records of Buzz are somehow sent into the past.

Who said TS4 wasn’t a money grab? I certainly think it was. That movie had no business being made.

e) Shows up in a recording studio (live action) to start recording lines for his character
f) He murders Tom Hanks to keep his secret
g) Toy Story: The Revenge is all about Joan Cusack hunting down Tim Allen to take her revenge on him, but instead they fall in love

Did Tim Allen's voice change? Why not use his voice?

I disagree. As a father of 2 i am greatly appreciative that they added another Toy Story movie to add to my kids obsession with Toy Story. Ive said many times but will say again. Not all movies are made just for you.

A little. Not a ton, though you can hear some of his age in his voice.

YouTube video posted September 2021

That's from his series where they're building a Vik.

I’ll put it this way: I wouldn’t have minded that being exclusively on Disney+.

So when the other actors portrayed Buzz in the TV series, toys, games, rides... that was all politics too?

How many movies? People don't give a shite about stuff other than movies.

Like the people who act like anything other than Star Wars movies matter in the franchise. "Ohh that was done in the Star Wars miniseries cartoon Alderaan Nights and is now canon." No one gives a shite if it didn't happen in a movie.

I do hope they’ve planned a trilogy for this. While it was used for great comedic effect in Toy Story 2, Zurg is Buzz’s father. Hopefully they release a new one every two years. Way they should be titled:

I: Lightyear
II: Infinity
III: Beyond

Would be a hell of a trilogy with those titles.

Disney+ made the big announcement that a new The Santa Clause series will be coming to Disney+. The filming is scheduled to begin in March and will be set after the trilogy of The Santa Clause films. We’ll once again have a chance to see Scott Calvin (played by Tim Allen) as he will soon be celebrating his 65th birthday. Santa begins realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in life south of the pole.

It came out Summer 2019, Disney+ launched in November 2019.

And nothing was stopping you from waiting until it was on Disney+ to watch it.
