Story of the time Pepsi "offered" a Harrier jet in a points for merch giveaway in 1995. I haven't watched yet but the actual story is interesting and made a bit of contract law.

Pepsi has done some weird shite. At one point in the last 50 years they owned the 6th largest military navy in the world.

Only an inferior cola would stoop to such cringe-y gimmicks.

Also, the Pepsi Challenge was bullshite too.

New Coke was a rip off of Pepsi. Coke bosses thought it tasted better.

Coke had the superior product; it was the mere panic to introduce New Coke. They should have weathered the 80s. Eventually, no one would care that Madonna and Michael Jackson endorsed Pepsi.

I don't know the full details of the story, BIREC, Pepsi jokingly offered a VTOL jet in an ad, and some enterprising individuals actually called them out on it, and acquired the points necessary to purchase.

Is the doc out now?

Coke needed a way to cover the transition from cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup, too.

"Which cola tastes sweeter?"
"Which cola tastes lighter?"

Want to watch it. Reminds of of the Atari sword quest contest from the sound of it.

The bad thing is that this wasn't the only contest grand prize where Pepsi stepped on their own dicks.

There was one promo where they were supposed to give away 5 Dodge Ram pickup trucks and the winners got to drive a lap on the Daytona Motor Speedway. IIRC, they printed 50 winning bottle caps instead.

Watched the entire thing. It was great.

Pepsi was a bunch of huge dicks in this case. It really pissed me off how it turned out.

The 90s was the last good decade. I was a little kid band biased but it gave me the nostalgia feels.

Liked the story and the kid deserved the jet, or settlement in lieu of. They made contract law literally in response to it.

Man what a shitty ending. I was expecting him to at least get some money. 20 year old me would have taken that million in a heart beat. I mean did he ever even say what he was going to do with the jet? Don’t get me wrong I was rooting for him but it Seemed weird that he was so passionate about acquiring something that he didn’t even know how to use

Pepsi is nasty and they should have been forced to give him the jet they offered.

Sell it, that’s how he got it investors, it was worth way more than how much it cost to buy the points and he didn’t have the money, so he got investors to help him buy the points.
