Did Dany mad queen? Maybe.
But, remember that Jamie never got to where he could ring the bells.
So, why did they ring?
A signal for something else?
For what?
Remember when Drogon was lighting up KL, there were wildfire explosions popping up all over the place.
Remember the Blackwater?
Remember Dany asking Tyrion what traps Cersi may be setting when they had the meeting in 7:7?
I suspect there was more than just scorpion construction going on.
I think Dany realized it was a trap and that was the last straw.

nah - she was just pissed John didn't give her the dick

I think she just kind of forgot that she wasn't supposed to kill everybody.

The wildfire only went off when Drogon set them off.

Yes, he set it off. But my theory us it would have gone off and consumed the invading forces as part of a trap by Cersi.

You put way more thought into this than DD did.

This theory contradicts both things in the episode and things that were said by the show runners in the inside the episode clips that HBO runs afterwards.

The Lannister army was surrendering regardless of Cersei.

Think this was just to harken back to her dad. Those traps also were very minor compared to the fire she brought down.

Or D&D are just horrible writers

I failed to see the point of the Wildfire going off, although TECHNICALLY, it's only after Jon sees green fire, that he says "we have to fall back, get out of the city".
If there were indeed traps set, a little exposition would have went a LONG way. Like when Qyburn is telling her the Scorpions are gone and and Iron Fleet is burning, and the Golden Company is gone... she could have made a comment then.
And hell, one wildfire explosion before the rampage, and Dany becomes a lot more gray and believable. Instead of randomly burning the suburbs while Cersei is still in the Red Keep, she's clearing out the minefield.
I just don't like the direction they took with her. She's not even a real villain, she's just gone crazy and had a dragon to work with. It'd be like Jon just randomly snapping and killing the crowd, when there's still Lannister soldiers around to kill. Note- Greyworm snaps too, but he's in "take no prisoners" mode with the Lannisters. He doesn't go into the mob.
At the very least, Dany should have hit the Red Keep first, and then move outward into the city proper. Loss of control, not loss of reasoning. Finish taking the strategic objectives first, and then not let go; instead she goes off-mission entirely.
I don't frankly see how even Greyworm could support that, and it's basically impossible to create any drama after the fact.

What they should have done is not go Mad Queen but Fear Queen. She did say after Jon rejected her that she'd have to rule through fear. They should have made that a bigger thing between Jon and Dany, then when she went all scorched earth have Jon saying something like "don't choose fear" like she was choosing a strategy.
Fast Forward to the next episode everyone is horrified that she did what she did, she becomes politically unacceptable as ruler because of it. That's when she goes mad, when she feels she has what she wanted so badly and she feels she earned it fair and square and did it her way. Now people want to take it away from her so she's fine killing everyone that won't bend the knee. Mad Queen makes sense then and definitely needs to be put down.

We already knew there was wildfire all over KL.
If her reasoning was to destroy KL and all of its citizens before Cersei destroyed KL and all of its citizens, Dany isn’t mad, she is retarded.

Consider Daario: he loves her unconditionally, he's a trusted advisor with unquestioning loyalty, he doesn't care if she has to marry someone else for an alliance. He just wants to be there.
She leaves him behind in Meereen.
Yet now, she's going nuts, precisely because there's no Daario in her life. Not that specific character, but she's unloved and her inner circle is thinned out.
I'd think that if something might make me lose my fricking mind, I wouldn't START doing it voluntarily. Bring him along, frick the potential Jon Snows of Westeros. She'a got the army to do this anyway.

The wildfire wasn't a trap. It was a part of the hidden wildfire caches that have been hidden in the city for years.

Dany had no idea Jaime was ringing the bells. All she was told is if the bells are ringing, they are surrendering. She obviously did not trust the bells and obviously just wanted the city to burn for what has happened. Cercei’s Face when they started rininging is proof she did not plan that.
Your take is just wrong.

Your theory is just wrong. It would have started going off when the bells rang otherwise.
