I don't frequent this board much as I don't watch alot of TV. Forgive me if this has been talked about already.

My opinion, one of the most under rated series which too many people have never heard of. Too bad it was only on Showtime. If they aired this series on regular cable TV, maybe this country would be a little better off these days by being more informed. Yeah, they'd have to censor it a bit taking away from it but it really is educational while being straight up funny.

All seasons on Hulu I discovered and now I'm watching them all over again years later still cracking up.

Imagine these guys doing this show today with all of the mask wearing, pandemic news, media, vaccinations, schools closing, government over reach, etc. They could have a field day

They’ve subsequently regretted some of their positions they took on the show. They’re close friends with Trey and Matt of South Park, who also have changed their position on certain key issues. (Hint: Al Gore.)

(Note: They qualify their new position by saying that while they now consider to Global Warming to be a fact, they still are skeptical of the cost-benefit analysis of mitigating strategies that are being proposed.)

Anyway, I think my favorite P&T episode is the one where they debunk the Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories.

What did T&M change about their view of Gore?

Not on Al Gore in particular, but I was referring to the implication that the 2018 episode “Time to Get Cereal” is a thinly-veiled apology for “ManBearPig.” The idea being that they’ve changed their position on the factuality of global warming/climate change, not necessarily in regards to Al Gore himself.

I loved them as magicians, and found their show when I was in college and loved it too. Asking people to ban water was hilarious.

If you ever go to Vegas and 'Rona is over, they take pictures with anyone in the crowd that wants to. I still have that and a signed program from when I went.

I do believe they’ve cancelled the Rio stage show permanently due to coronavirus. They simply could not reopen, so I think they had to shut it down.

Edit: I don’t see any official announcement. But I’ve checked tickets, and there doesn’t appear to be any shows scheduled for the near future. It’s been almost a year since they had to go dark for COVID, so I can’t imagine that is good for business.

True! Seen them at the Rio in Vegas years ago and at the Sanger in New Orleans about 3 years ago? They did the same after each show and signed autographs while doing pictures with people.

Still have my signed ticket from the Rio show

Best thing to do going into the show is, no matter where you fall on the political spectrum, be ready to get shite on :)

Both sides have some fairly ridiculous beliefs and P&T don't pull punches pointing out when either side believes something stupid.

Of course there are the safer episodes for folks, like debunking Moon Landing conspiracies.

Episode List

89 total episodes, so you'll find plenty to enjoy.

Of course, the last one is on vaccinations and how there is absolutely no link to autism.

They're both Libertarian, but that's not nearly as "pro-Conservative" as people think, due to the fact that Conservatism has decided to be linked directly with Republicans, who are most assuredly NOT "small government" (the preface being that while people who VOTE Republican might be for small government, the people elected to office with an "R" next to their name pretty much never are).

Honestly the best/worst episode of the show is the Lie Detector episode.

Should be mandatory viewing for freshmen in high school.

It amazes me that the Lie Detector is still part of getting high level security clearances. People treat the thing like magic.

Honestly, this show really shaped my thinking. I find it sad Penn no longer classifies himself as a libertarian, since I think him, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone were the true libertarians that really shaped a lot of young people’s thinking. I got to go with the PETA episode where they implicitly abused animals the entire show just to piss PETA off as much as possible (like locking some dogs up in a restaurant grade freezer).

Has he outright dropped the libertarian label? I was under the impression he was just becoming more pragmatic and voting for the major party candidate he preferred after years of being a strict party-line libertarian voter. (Whether Clinton or Biden are more preferential than Trump to a libertarian voter I guess is up to debate.)

I don't think you have to be PETA to not want people to torture animals.

What I hate about PETA is that nearly any point they take is associated with them and then gets deemed "crazy".

I, personally, have no love for circuses. Not because of having the animals perform, but because they put them in pretty terribly conditions between performances. (Which is admittedly better than how some other countries treat their own zoo animals, but I digress).

It's like saying, "I don't think my 3 year old nephew should own a grenade launcher" and someone saying, "You hate the 2nd Amendment!" Which is BS, because I bought my 5 year old nephew a minigun for Christmas.

Pretty sure they did a bit on vaccinations. Spoiler alert, they are strongly pro-vaccine.

For the record, I don’t lose my shite when some hero of mine changes their views on certain topics. People grow older. People change. It’s actually cool for me to sometimes listen to liberals because at least I’m challenging myself to try to see things from their point of views.

That being said, I *might* be disappointed if they changed their views based on peer pressure or something like that

I feel the same way to an extent. When it first came out, it exposed me to different points of view on topics I never gave much consideration to at the time.

Episodes criticizing diversity requirements, reparations, sensitivity training, and environmentalists were eye opening, and would probably never air today.

Like was mentioned already, my favorite might be the organic food episode. The taste test with two regular bananas from the same bunch with one labeled "organic" was brilliant.

I heard somewhere that Penn was asked why he was not as critical of Islam as he was of Christianity and he said “Because I don’t have to worry as much about Christians killing my family”. Pretty hypocritical of him if he actually said that.

Random 2nd-hand CSB: my former boss was a student at Lawrence HS in New Jersey in the mid-‘70s, when Teller was teaching Latin there.
