The writers supposedly felt bad always picking on Jerry, so they decided to make his home life as perfect as possible to counter out his work life.

That was a brilliant sub plot because it made sense why the character seemingly never cared that everyone shite on him all day and blamed him for everything

Knowing he’s going home to Christie Brinkley, you’re like oh shite that’s why he’s Teflon

Exactly.

And as above poster mentioned, Schur/Goor thought what happens if the office doofus goes home to an absolutely perfect home-life, etc. Greatness.

Rachel and Joey attempting to date in the later seasons of friends was so weird. I’d nominate that for this topic

All of season 9 of Seinfeld.

Don't get me wrong, there were some classic episodes that season. But everyone had an out of left field story line. The Frogger. Festivus. The Merv Griffin Show.

Parks & Recreation was the last truly great sitcom before “wokeness” took over all the entertainment industry. I have been watching reruns on IFC constantly in the last year after watching it all the way through on Netflix & it is amazing.

That always felt like Gilligan and them throwing Betsy Brandt a bone so she wouldn't just be useless

That’s hilarious because when it came out people complained that they were just making a female led version of the office to be “woke” (before that term was coined I would think, but the same idea)

Towards the end of Miami Vice when Don Johnson got a concussion and actually became his undercover alias, Sonny Burnett, the ruthless drug dealer.

I agree Leslie was definitely a Hillary loving feminist but show me any sitcom/comedy/drama in the last 5 years that would have an anti government Libertarian Europe/soyboy hating straight white male named Ron Swanson leading a government department.

People use the word "woke" or "wokeness" to encompass so many different things, it's confusing as hell. People hated and still hate the Leslie Knope character to this day. I generally take anyone that invokes "wokeness" as a general talking point as suspect.

For Parks and Rec specifically, there is no Ron Swanson greatness without Leslie Knope.

Is that the criteria for not being "woke"? If so, thanks for defining it.

There are tons of shows with people just living their lives and doing their business.

And by the way, you should understand that Ron Swanson's character is more than a "soyboy hating straight white male". It's such a simple take.

It always seemed like, lets just do the opposite of what everyone expects.

After getting shite on at work all day by his colleagues, you expect that he's the person that goes home to a can of Dinty-Moore stew and a couple of cats.

Instead the writers give him the biggest dick ever, his wife is Christie Brinkley, he has 3 hot daughters that all adore him and the family is Norman Rockwell corny.

And no one at work understands what the he'll is going on.

I think the writers stole from Seinfeld. Its bizarro Jerry.

They definitely did it on purpose. It was a great idea by Schur/Goor and delivered many fold - for other characters to play off of, for Jim O'Heir, etc.
