Guess they can’t use #OscarsSoWhite this year.

Wait a minute, after cleaning house at the National Board of Review awards, Spike Lee doesn't even get a nomination for either Director or Best Picture?

For that 5 Bloods movie? That was garbage. It would be an insult to the other black films to nominate that crap.

I have very very rarely seen all of the big nominees in a given year, but until now always a handful.

This year, I can say I'm completely 0/everything. Every single award. I haven't seen a single one of these movies.

This isn't some sort of weird brag either, it's pretty sad.

Just seems weird to win at both categories at the NBR awards but not even get a nomination at the Oscars.

Similar weirdness with Adam Sandler winning the NBR award for Best Actor for Uncut Gems and not get an Oscar nom either.

Script and supporting actress. And from what I hear, she's the best thing in the movie.

Isn't this usually the case with Oscar movies? They continue to follow the Weinstein model of using Oscar hype to generate free publicity for their mid-budget art-house movies.

The only nominated films that I saw in the theater were Tenet and Promising Young Woman. I've seen a bunch of the other noms, but all on TV. It's a weird feeling. Chicogo 7 was great, but seemed like a made for TV movie.

Wow, I've actually seen 6.5/8 of the best picture nominees prior to the announcement. That never happens

Of all of those, I'm pulling for Sound of Metal. Sure, it's the typical Oscar bait "person with a disability" story, but it's at least about a heavy metal drummer, so that's cool.

And Riz Ahmed was fantastic in it. Would not be surprised if he wins Best actor

20 or 30 years ago, Mank would be a shoe-in, just for being a big Hollywood story.

They would have been better off canceling the ceremony and rolling everything forward into next year over this shitshow.

I would be shocked if even one of headline noms had been seen by even 5M+ viewers. Easily 75% of the country hasn't seen a single one.

Same. I've only seen two of the best picture films (Trial and Judas), and both of those were okayish. Nothing to write home about.

A couple of those like Minari and Mank interest me, though Mank looks like your typical Hollywood circle jerk kind of movie.
