My eyes got moist watching that. That show really is the best thing on TV that's not on TV.
Indeed.

I need a show to binge, I have a couple weeks of slack time, worth it?

I'm not exaggerating that it's one of the most enjoyable shows of the last 5 years at least.

Finally!
This show is more “Trek” than any “trek” that has come out in a generation and it’s not even close.

it had to be awkward with 2 of the cast divorcing

How much is a HULU script?
May pay the $6.99/ month to just watch the first two series over a couple of months.

It seems more serious and less woke than before and seem like a legit sci fi show instead of a spoof which was what they were going for in season 1 and 2

The Orville is such a weird show. Sometimes, they're a goofy spoof, but they also have incredibly serious episodes too. It's basically TNG with the occasional dick joke or pop culture reference. Yet, they have a tendency to tackle really big issues with nuance, creativity, and always leave you feeling hopeful. It's the perfect use of the original intent of the scify medium: to explore current events and philosophical issues through the lens of possible futures and technology. Even when discussing "woke" social issues, The Orville never feels preachy. The situations and conflicts always seem organic to the story, and are presented as multi-faceted, often with no "right" answer (except for maybe the episode where Dolly Parton's "Nine to Five" becomes the theme song for a literal armed revolution ).
The porn episode ("Primal Urges") was some of the funniest scify since "Spaceballs", the "If the Stars Should Appear" was one of the more poignant and moving episodes of TV I've ever seen. They did social credit scores better than black mirror (and almost as well as "Community") in "Majority Rule", and tackled some really interesting philosophical questions about relationships in "Lasting Impressions".
The Orville is not just top shelf scify, it's top shelf tv, period.
They absolutely captured the true spirit of everything Star Trek was and should be.

I spent years putting it off and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. Loved the show. They really pull off traditional Trek style with a good amount of humor.
Season 1 they went heavy on the jokes, Season 2 they dialed the jokes back a bit, and it looks like Season 3 they put even more oomph into the production. This looks great.

Almost everything remotely "woke" in Season 1 was some kind of reference or callback to Star Trek TNG, even if it wasn't hilarious parody.
Ain't seen Season 2 don't have Hulu, so I probably won't see S3 anytime soon :(

The Orville isn’t a parody of Star Trek, it’s quality Star Trek with some jokes thrown in. It works really well actually.
There some progressive or “woke” moments. They tackle the transgender issue very even handily if you ask me. The show warns against cancel culture in another episode.

Will they kill off Norm McDonald’s character?
Posted on 5/16/22 at 7:50 am to JJ27
I think they had recorded most of his dialogue before he died, so unless they can find a sound alike, I suspect that's in the cards.

Yep one of Norms last performances.
RIP

I suspect the first episode will have an "in memory of" for him

Its not bad, it doesn't have that "gotta watch the next episode now feel" but it is enjoyable.

Got through the identity episodes, this show gets better in season two. Hope they have a more serialized approach going forward
