That was a pretty good episode, but a major problem with this show is that it takes them FOREVER to advance the plot. This Daryl stuff should take 20 minutes tops. It is a minor subplot. I don't need to see them bring him 8 fricking dog food sandwiches. Just get on with it already. And ignoring all the other characters while they do this just exacerbates the problem. Also, the ridiculous amount of commercial time goes hand in hand with this - there just wasn't enough material to fill a 60 minute time slot. This episode should have been combined with last week's.

So, how fricking stupid is Daryl? Just play along, get in good with them, then rebel from the inside. Dwight was hunted down and is now a top lieutenant. You see that. The opportunity is obvious. This tough guy routine is not going to get you anywhere.

The monotony was purposeful. It's a technique to help the viewer relate to the situation.

If Daryl played along, Negan would know that he is full of shite.

For people bitching about commercials. Do you not have DVRs? I thought that was commonplace these days. I always start the show 20 after

They probably do and they intentionally don't use them just so they can bitch about the commercials. People on TD do love to bitch.

I watch on sling, so skipping commercials isn't an option. It's not a problem for me though.

Did anyone notice that in the preview for next week's episode, Lucille had blood on it?

She got thirsty. You got a problem with it?

4. To all the people bitching about commercials, shut up. It's so tiring. DVR the show, wait 20 minutes, and skip ahead.

I want to agree with you, but it was VERY annoying last night watching it even recorded. At one point there was literally three minutes of show between commercial breaks. That is ridiculous. Even though I record the show I should be able to sit down and watch it for more than three minutes before I have to pick up my remote and FFWD again.

Solid episode last night. It was nice to get some backstory on Dwight and see where he is coming from.

I hope we get some background on Negan and just how he came into power. We've already seen some of it with this episode, but how does someone come in and steal peoples' wives only to have them bend a fricking knee and take whatever he dishes out and not do anything about it? Seems like someone would've staged a coup by now. I know I damn sure would in that situation.

Good to see Darryl staying strong so far. I look forward to when he breaks free for real. Also, I kept laughing at how he literally never spoke until the last 60 seconds or so. What he said to Dwight...I assume he was talking about Glenn? Or was it a mix of Glenn and also his group (like how he will never turn to Negan's side due to his loyalty to Rick and company)?

2. Negan is a great villain. The actor is superb.

Agree 100% with this. JDM is fantastic. And as much as he does love to hear himself talk, I enjoy everything he has to say.

90 minute show next week, so people may get that 50 minutes of episode they want.

I hope they will do Negan's story soon - what he was/did to how he got the group. They did one for the governor, who wasn't nearly as entertaining as Negan and not near as bad.

As bad as Negan is, he is almost a likeable character.

I agree. And so does USA Today.

quote:

The show has a problem this season, and its name is Negan. ... Here’s the thing: Negan is not an effective villain. The show spent half a season building him up, had him kill two major characters and put a big-name actor behind him. But still, he generates neither fear nor loathing nor awe. There’s not enough backstory to make him fully-fleshed out and too much to make him mysterious. He’s just boring, and the show is trying to make up for it by pushing the boundaries of what he does. But just because the characters around Negan say he is scary and horrible and menacing, doesn’t make him that way. ...

Until the show either finds a way to crack the Negan code or moves on from him entirely, every episodes is going to feel like work to get through. Death, torture and endless monologuing won’t help.

I just wish he was a little more vulgar. "Grab 'em by the pussy" is basically right up Negan's alley.

Right now, Kirkman is doing a serial comic about Negan's backstory. They are all on YouTube (believe it's up to Part 7 right now) and while I'm not a fan of Kirkman as a writer, it scratches an itch. I think it's called "Here's Negan"

that USA today article is garbage.

the episode wasn't in my top half of favorite TWD episodes, because I can only handle so many seconds of the camera zoomed in on Darryl's face while he is sitting on the ground.

However, getting to know Dwight and his backstory with Negan seems important. this episode had to happen and im glad it out of the way by E3

plus it reminded viewers of the first time Daryl met Dwight, Sherry, and Sister out in the forest. Now we know why they were running and scared of being tracked down

heres to a great E4

That was my initial reaction as well, but I somehow imagine it isn't that easy. If Daryl says "ok I'll play ball" I guarantee he is required to prove loyalty (kill someone, beat someone, etc.)... likely someone from the Alexandria group.

What is this?? I mean we are 3 episodes into the season. Plus the fact that nobody really know much about him and everybody is scared of him to me makes him even scarier.
