Ocean’s Eleven (2001) question
Was Ocean’s Eleven the perfect post-9/11 movie? A palate cleanser from all of the death and sadness of September. A movie with 4 of the biggest stars in Hollywood being hip, clever, and funny? The perfect movie to shut off your brain and have fun for 2 hours?

The 20th anniversary of 9/11 is on my mind as well as a desire for that one perfect post-COVID movie to show up.

It had a run time of one hour and 56 minutes not two hours, say what you mean and mean what you say. I apologize, that’s been programmed into me and I’ve been drinking. I do agree with you though

How’s they get the bags inside the vault.

I can’t say I’ve ever linked 9/11 to oceans 11.

I did enjoy the movie but it was a DVD release for me.

My characterization of the movie as a post-9/11 catharsis may sound a bit academic, but I genuinely think it hit at the perfect time for people to want to have a good time without all the doom and gloom they were watching on TV.

It took me 18 years to watch Oceans 11 and really liked it! Unlike today with The Green Mile.

Soderbergh is an interesting character. Comes off winning Best Director in 2000 for Traffic to make a Rat Pack remake.

At the time, he carried as much cache as Nolan does now.

Is there a Best Director winner from 2010 to the present who would make a career move to follow up an Oscar with a popcorn entertainment flick?

I love all of the Ocean's movies, including Ocean's 8.

I haven’t seen 8 and I only saw Thirteen one time in the theater.

I thought the premise was wearing thin in Thirteen. But I’ve seen Eleven and Twelve multiple times and they both hold up well.

Agreed. I’ve seen it an embarrassing amount of times. Perfect cast, pace, music.

Been awhile since you've seen it?

Video of bags during the robbery was filmed in the fake vault.

Bags used to takeout the money was brought in from fake SWAT.

It’s probably the most “fun” movie I’ve ever seen. Easily in my top 5 and maybe my #1.

No, but they had to bring the bags in full with fake chips and hooker cards. Benedict walks into a vault full of blown fake material.

But I dont care. I'll watch 11, 12, or 13 any time it's on TV.
12 I didn't like at first since it didn't have the same feeling, but it's grown on me big time and turns out what I liked the first time around vs didn't like in #12 has almost flip flopped. It's such a parody of itself and that's what makes it so great.

Plus I'll always support Soderbergh since he's an LSU guy and all

re: Ocean’s Eleven (2001) question
Could The Eleven have brought that in when they came disguised as the SWAT team? (Make it look like they were carrying equipment in their bags when in actuality it was the fake money they used to distract Benedict?)

Also, it’s not really explained how the floor sensors got turned off. It happens right after they blow up the door, but it’s never really commented upon. I guess the explosion knocked it out?

That's another good point. They should have waited for "SWAT" to get there and the kill power command before blowing it, but they didn't. There was really no point to blow it early other than piling the money up beforehand since they didn't have the bags to put it in.
