No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
Just came across it on tv. Going off now. Apparently has been on for hours.

Does not seem like country music though. Sounds like hip hop and R&B with a twang.

Saw some chick win Best Female Singer. She said “thanks so much, I have to pee.”

That’s pretty much all I got.

re: No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
Country music died about 25 years ago. With many of these musicians espousing their "not so popular with the fanbase" political ideology, they have probably pissed off many in what is about the most loyal followers of a genre of music.

I spoke to a country radio guy not long ago and he knew a successful country song writer and he said he can't get anything original sounding on the radio or through Nashville at al anymore.

He said they all use a formula now and only produce songs about "Trucks" "Weekends" "Beer" "Boats" and "The Boys".

Damn shame. It was great once.

re: No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
Country music then...

I grew up dreaming of being a cowboy
And loving the cowboy ways
Pursuing the life of my high riding heroes
I burned up my childhood days
I learned all the rules of a modern day drifter
Don't you hold on to nothing too long
Just take what you need from the ladies, then leave them
With the words of a sad country song

My heroes have always been cowboys
And they still are, it seems
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of
Themselves and their slow moving dreams

Cowboys are special with their own brand of misery
From being alone too long
You could die from the cold, in the arms of a nightmare
Knowing well that your best days are gone
Picking up hookers instead of my pen
I let the words of my youth fade away
Old worn out saddles, and old worn out memories
But no one and no place to stay

My heroes have always been cowboys
And they still are, it seems
Sadly, in search of, and one step in back of
Themselves and their slow moving dreams

Sadly, in search of, and one step in back of
Themselves and their slow moving dreams

I have seen the morning burning golden on the mountain in the skies
Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies
Turning on the world, the way she smiled upon my soul as I lay dying
Healing as the colors in the sunshine and the shadows of her eyes
Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again

Waking in the morning to the feeling of her fingers on my skin
Wiping out the traces of the people and the places that I"ve been
Teaching me that yesterday was something that I never thought of trying
Talking of tomorrow and the money, love, and time we had to spend
Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again

Coming close together
With a feeling that I'd never known before in my time
She ain't ashamed to be a woman or afraid to be a friend
I don't know the answer to the easy way she opened every door in my mind
But dreaming was as easy as believing it was never gonna end
Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again

re: No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
Country music now...

It ain't the proof of the alcohol, nah
That's got my back up against the wall
Staring at you, you, you
Watching you move, move, move, yeah
And I can't even walk across the room without losing my cool
You got my world tippin' and spinnin', doin' what you do
Yeah, you're makin' me swerve
Hey girl, what's your name?
You must get it from your mama
Does your daddy let you date with all them curves? (Curves, hey)
Hold on, yeah, where you learn to dance?
Yeah, I'ma two-step up to you with that booty in them pants
Way you rollin' in that body, feel like I'm in a Bugatti
And I know I'm 'bout to lose control
You're makin' me swerve
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve)
You're making me swerve
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve)
Yeah, I just really came to chill tonight, but
You got me silly, girl, you got me high
'Cause you so fine, fine, fine
I'm losing my mind, mind, mind, yeah
And I can't even walk across the room without losing my cool (woo)
And girl you change the game, you got me changing lanes to hang with you
Yeah, you're makin' me swerve (aw yeah)
Hey girl, what's your name?
You must get it from your mama
Does your daddy let you date with all them curves?
Hold on (hey), yeah, where you learn to dance?
Yeah, I'ma two-step up to you with that booty in them pants
Way you rollin' in that body, feel like I'm in a Bugatti
And I know I'm 'bout to lose control
You're makin' me swerve
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve) (ah yeah)
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve)
You're making me swerve (oh)
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me swerve) (woo)
(Makin' me swerve)
(Makin' me, makin' me)
And I ain't ever been down this road before
And I ain't ever met no body like yours
You're making me swerve
You're making me swerve
You're making me swerve
You're making me swerve, swerve
Let's go

This is how we roll
We hanging round singing out everything on the radio
We light it up
Light it up, light it up
Haha, it's the Dirty South connection
Florida Georgia Line
Uh uh, it's Florida, uh uh it's Georgia
We light it up
Light it up, light it up
The mixtape's got a little Hank, little Drake
A little something bumping, thump, thumping on the wheel ride
The mix in our drink's a little stronger than you think
So get a grip, take a sip of that feel right
The truck's jacked up, flat bills flipped back
Yeah you can find us where the party's at
This is how we roll
We hanging 'round singing out everything on the radio
We light it up with our hands up
This is how we roll
This is how we do
We're burning down the night shooting bullets at the moon
Baby, this is how we roll
I'm feeling a little dirty baby, listen
My accent's got a little twang, little thing
Little something, something
Always makes the ladies scream my
My name louder, reverse cowgirl
Little bump, bump in that trunk
All up in my new Maybach
That how well my snapback
You can find us where the party at
This is how we roll
We hanging round singing out everything on the radio
We light it up with our hands up
This is how we roll
This is how we do
When the world turns ugly I just turn and look at you
Baby, this is how we roll
This is how we roll baby
Yeah we're proud to be young
We stick to our guns
We love who we love and we love to get drunk
Yeah we cuss on them Mondays
And pray on them Sundays
Pass is around and we dream about one day
This is how we roll
'Cause this is how we roll baby
We hanging round singing out everything on the radio
We light it up with our hands up
This is how we roll
This is how we ride
We slingin' up the mud, cuttin' through the countryside
Baby, this is how we roll
Yeah, This is how we roll
This is how we roll
This is how we roll
Yeah, This is how we roll
This is how we roll
This is how we do
We burning down the night shooting bullets at the moon
Baby this is how we roll
Yeah, this is how we roll
This is how we roll

I'll admit that comparing Willie to anyone from a songwriting standpoint is probably a losing endeavor... But the difference is quote astronomical.

Even comparing Garth Brooks (who some even say is the cause of all of this), his lyrics are like Dylan compared to the shite put out today.

re: No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
From circa 1999, George Strait / Alan Jackson duet, winning CMA's song of the year in 2000. Go figure.

quote:

Nobody saw him running from sixteenth avenue.
They never found the fingerprint or the weapon that was used.
But someone killed country music, cut out its heart and soul.
They got away with murder down on music row.

The almighty dollar and the lust for worldwide fame
Slowly killed tradition and for that someone should hang
(oh, you tell them Alan).
They all say not guilty, but the evidence will show
That murder was committed down on music row.

For the steel guitars no longer cry and fiddles barely play,
But drums and rock 'n roll guitars are mixed up in your face.
Old Hank wouldn't have a chance on today's radio
Since they committed murder down on music row.

They thought no one would miss it, once it was dead and gone
They said no one would buy them old drinking and cheating songs (I'll still buy'em)
Well there ain't no justice in it and the hard facts are cold
Murder's been committed down on music row.

Oh, the steel guitars no longer cry and you can't hear fiddles play
With drums and rock 'n roll guitars mixed right up in your face
Why, the Hag, he wouldn't have a chance on today's radio
Since they committed murder down on music row
Why, they even tell the Possum to pack up and go back home
There's been an awful murder down on music row.

re: No Country Music Awards Show Thread?
Honestly I didn’t think it was that terrible
He said thoughts with those affected by wildfires & hurricanes on the gulf coast
Then said we are fighting 2 pandemics, virus & racism, it was quick & over
I was waiting for much more honestly

They did a story with Ford on a guitars for veterans charity & Eric Church sang Ragged Old Flag

I was expecting it to be more SJW than it was but all in all it was awkward in front of no audience & the sound was pretty bad

I love that version, but the original by Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time is good too. LINK The album it's off of is pretty good also.

Although he isn't near as great as his dad, Waylon's son Shooter Jennings had an incredible name for his first album... "Put the O Back in Country"

i get its what kids like cause the evolution of country music has always had the melody/instrumentals sounding more and more like pop music with each subsequent generation.

What i dont get is how they can even call it country now though as so many of the lyrics have nothing to do with being country western.

I find myself wondering if these zoomers are ever going to grow up and realize what real country is, or if hank williams and willie & Waylon will just be forgotten in 50 years

Is that really Gwen Stefani in the picture? If so, what did she do to her face?

That song was intentionally written for 90s country. But it is more relevant now than ever.
